  1. Booker Ervin - Heavy!! - (Prestige, blue label)
  2. The Remarkable C.J. was on Pacific Jazz, and that's probably the one you're thinking of.
  3. Liked her in the few things I saw her in and understand that she had numerous struggles throughout her life. However, I consider her a musical artist about as much as I do Kurt Russell, which is to say not really.
  4. Yeah, I believe it. I'd much rather have the Nessa CDs out there.
  5. I really only have a few small purge regrets. Sure, it would be nice to have x, y or z indie/punk/prog record but I'm glad to have other, presumably more rewarding things to listen to. That MEV on Horo is quite good, but so are a lot of things at the end of the day.
  6. I'd buy it if it existed. Are there more tracks from these sessions? Can't remember and am too lazy to look it up.
  7. I have a Japanese stereo pressing of that one - it's good. I'm intrigued by its existence on the label, as it was leased from Campi.
  8. Haha same here - must dig it out.
  9. Heart Dance, River Flow: Folk Music of Tibet - (Dorje Ling, US) really strong compilation of Tibetan folk songs and celebratory recordings from Tibet with a handsome gold-leaf effect on the cover
  10. I am going on Sunday if anyone else from the board is seeing it.
  11. I am a fan of Urge - got a UK pressing with the "Jazz Life" cover art.
  12. Nice! Will have to grab one.
  13. First Encounter is a trio with drummer Hiroshi Murakami, unless there's a duo record I'm forgetting...
  14. Ha, same thing happens to me quite often. Followed by "what am I doing with all these records by ____ in here??"
  15. That could be it and Elvin is on the date...
  16. yeah, Goody was weird -- a BYG-connected label it seems, set up to bootleg other labels' sessions and spotlighting musicians who were visiting Paris at the time. The Thornton was an odd one to rip off, but I guess he was pretty well-known in the scene at the time.
  17. Freedom & Unity is great -- have had a few copies over the years and the one I've got now is in archival condition. Seems like between the small-label cheap pressing and dudes jamming it often, many copies are pretty rinked. Communications Network is a curious artifact though I wouldn't call it a particularly fantastic album. Also, the America is a must-own.
  18. Just picked up Shadowgraph myself recently - it's in the 'to listen' pile right now... Now: something I've had (obviously) for many years, Clifford Thornton - Freedom & Unity - (Third World, US private press orig)
  19. Frank Strozier - March of the Siamese Children - (Jazzland, mono)
  20. Hank Mobley, Donald Byrd et al. - Jazz Message #2 - (Savoy, maroon label)
  21. Yeah, I saw that reference. I remember reading about it and being taken by the personnel being exactly the people that it was claimed Jones detested when Coltrane was bringing them into the band. But for the life of me I can't find the personnel list itself. The Colbeck may have been the Pixie session, which was being shopped around after that label folded.
  22. Having trouble finding the details online, but I recall reading about an Elvin Jones record for Douglas that went unissued and may have included "free" players like Byard Lancaster, Dave Burrell and Sonny Sharrock. My memory is foggy but I believe I read about this session in a discography (Lord?) and now can't seem to trace it. Any help would be much appreciated.
