  1. It's a legume (I think). correct
  2. I assume BGP/ACE are legit and just license stuff with a pretty all-over-the-place approach. Their catalog doesn't exactly appear well-curated.
  3. I didn't call them tomorrow.
  4. The Dorham will still set you back some change. The Earl Anderza on red wax sometimes gets pricey, surely there are others. Amy's records are excellent but not all that rare, so they probably can be found cheaply.
  5. yeah, that is a cool set. Have it around here somewhere, as well as the original (& excellent) RCA LP.
  6. Yeah, Brandon Burke screened this for me when we were in college. Pretty fascinating.
  7. Amon Düül - Psychedelic Underground - (Metronome, GER orig)
  8. It's real good. Far less wailing, tinny guitar racket than the three subsequent LPs (which I like a lot - no surprise there), and pretty tautly arranged horn parts. "Can I Have My Paperback Back" is a particularly standout tune. I need a mint copy but it rarely turns up in anything better than VG+ condition, as with the bulk of those Realm titles.
  9. Wow. RIP.
  10. LP only, but strong: http://www.allaboutjazz.com/soy-califa-live-from-magleaas-hojskole-1967-dexter-gordon-gearbox-records-review-by-bruce-lindsay.php
  11. ha, true. But it's $30 too much.
  12. that is a dumb price for that record.
  13. Someone should grip those Wax Poetics back issues. If I actually had space and wasn't overflowing with bullshit (both physical and mental!) I'd take 'em.
  14. and there's also a 1970s psych band called Om, if memory serves.
  15. I hope this is filmed.
  16. I remember buying that - it was the first George Russell LP I checked out. I was probably 19 or 20 and the seller at the record fair was like "so young people are listening to George Russell now?!?"
  17. Wouldn't it be arguable that different aspects of Monk's rhythmic approach were brought out by different drummers, and unless the drummer is truly not listening/into the music, each player puts something on the table? I can enjoy Riley, Dunlop, Haynes and Blakey with Monk for different reasons (although I suppose there are obvious differences between BANDS that highlight the nuances in his music, not just who's in the chair).
  18. yeah, that Sirone record rules.
  19. Bought my copy at the long-gone Peaches Records on Peachtree Street in Atlanta in 1978 or so. If I made a list of a dozen albums which changed the way I heard music, this would be on the list. Does your cover look like this picture? Mine is the unreadable yellow-on-white cover, which Chuck insists is not his fault. My cover looks like that picture. Total life-changer for me too. Mine is also black on yellow.
  20. Is it true that he was one of the first? I'd be surprised if so - seems like others might have in decades prior.
  21. (Franz Koglmann "Opium/For Franz" on Pipe Records, feat. Bill Dixon, Alan Silva and Steve Lacy) I'm a fan of the hand-painted covers. As far as drawings on mass-produced covers, I've always dug this one a lot, for Huseyin Ertunç's Musiki LP:
  22. Thanks dudes! I was out the entire day yesterday, took the day off (which is a rare occurrence). Good food/wine and hanging out although not much time for listening to music. Strange how that happens...
