  1. Yeah, To My Queen is beautiful.
  2. I like the Dauntless/Audio Fidelity recordings quite a bit. But yes, the Steeplechase discs are all pretty wonderful.
  3. Yeah, I'm in a similar boat on both counts. Have spent around $40 for a couple of OOP single discs (usually far less) and up to $500 on an LP a couple of times but usually far less!
  4. Thanks for posting these. Did anyone go to the Stone memorial concerts? I was out of town.
  5. Bernie McGann - The Australasian Jazz Avant-Garde 1966 - (Sarang Bang) unissued quartet and quintet recordings from this under-sung altoist, absolutely essential group music.
  6. Not sure about specific recorded performances but live, Tom Blancarte is a motherfucker - from Texas, now splits his time between Denmark and NYC. He also plays one of those electric Ampeg baby uprights.
  7. Rodan - Rusty - (Quarterstick) classique
  8. gonna skip Friday (birthday party - yay me) but may pop into something on Saturday.
  9. Good album. Now I'm getting nostalgic for the music of my youth! Maybe I should pull out "umber" by Bitch Magnet tonight Hah, yeah Bitch Magnet are great. Saw their reunion tour come through NYC a couple years ago. Star Booty (Roman Candle OG) was on deck earlier today as well. Now: Evergreen - s/t - (Hi-Ball) strong, strong post-punk from Louisville's heyday with Britt Walford on drums. Haven't heard that one in about 15 years! yeah, I bought it back about eight years ago - still holds up.

  11. Yeah, I hear you - it's not "stellar" sound but it's more than adequate for me, as far as getting the music across. Fantastic playing here - Harriott is in excellent form.
  12. Good one. Now, Seam - Headsparks - (City Slang, GER)
  13. I have an original French pressing but have long been curious about the Japanese Odeon and its extra ten minutes of music. Curious, but it's hard to break the bank purchasing something you already own! I've checked again and am pretty sure now that the extra music on the Japanese Frank Wright is the '"Church number nine" track on Noah Howard's "Space Dimension" (which didn't really belong there in the first place). It's been restored (it's longer and doesn't have the fade out-pause-restart) and the sound is far, far superior. Anyway, French or Japanese, it's still one of the most exciting free jaz records ever made and it deserves a first class reissue (how about a Noah Howard & Frank Wright Complete Small Group Sessions box set?). Ah! Yeah, I have the Japanese pressing of the Howard (hat-tip to homefromtheforest) and it sounds great. All set then.
  14. I'm fine with the sound, and can't afford an OG...
  15. Barney Wilen - Dear Prof. Leary - (MPS, GER)
  16. Harold Land - The Peace-Maker - (Cadet, DG orig)
  17. well now that you've got two copies, I'd be happy to help you free one up!
  18. I've been told the Japanese "Le nouveau jazz" is a stereo pressing. If so, is it "real" stereo? I think my copy is stereo but honestly have no idea. Catalog number is "SL-5007-AX". My copy is a white label promo and all the text on the back and inner gatefold is in Japanese. The pressing quality is pristine and not a single click is to be heard which is nice. Yeah, Columbia pressed up promos of both Tusques Mouloudjis - they are also quite rare, pressings are undoubtedly better than the originals. So it goes... Funny thing, those vintage Japanese free jazz pressings. "Church number nine" on Odeon has even got 10 minutes of extra music (sort of "part 3") compared to the French Calumet. I have an original French pressing but have long been curious about the Japanese Odeon and its extra ten minutes of music. Curious, but it's hard to break the bank purchasing something you already own! Now: Greek-Oriental Smyrnaic-Rebetic Songs and Dances, The Golden Years 1927-1937 - (Folklyric, US)

  20. Yikes that's a big purchase! Worked out a deal on clean copies of both Mouloudjis for far less than one usually costs.
  21. The Cacophonic pressings I've heard are a little noisy but so are the originals... really heavy music as you might imagine. Free Jazz is a little more structured composition-wise (ironically), whereas Le Nouveau Jazz is pretty nasty/wooly.
  22. François Tusques - Free Jazz - (Mouloudji, FR)
  23. Byron Morris & Unity - Blow Thru Your Mind - (EPI, US orig) been reacquainting myself with this one lately, still holds up brilliantly
  24. now: François Tusques - Le Nouveau Jazz - (Mouloudji, FR orig) little xmas present to myself.
