I dunno... it's definitely dubious. Why wouldn't you want the box and book? It's not even that expensive of a set in the first place, priceless considering the music.

Lane is often reliably solid though I found this one uninteresting myself. I really enjoy the new CF trio he's on with Mark Whitecage and Lou Grassi, and the CIMP recordings with Vijay Anderson and Vinny Golia are also nice. Also the orchestra New Magical Kingdom (CF) and in the Mat Marucci/Markus Berger Ensemble (Cadence Jazz). Saw him live in the band he had with John Tchicai, Barry Altschul and Paul Smoker - excellent, as is their CIMP disc, Four Beings. Guess that about covers it...

I'm mostly familiar with the works he did in collaboration with Fernando Grillo. Nice!

Most of that happened years ago...apparently some people need more of a life than I do. edit: When you mention "Microtonalist", it sounds like you're not referring to Clem, but to that bitter, unhappy clique of folks who hate music. I see NPR is going to help them become popular with the impressionable youth of today... I feel you - was just joshin'.

Dig the Kenneth Noland paintings on the covers. I heard the 1st disc, wasn't too impressed at the time (Mehldau) but would be into checking it out again.
