  1. I just put my girlfriend's pitch-corrected CD issue on my iPod and am fine with that. Used to have a six-eye mono but sold it, as it was a little the worse for wear.
  2. His leader date for Savoy was pretty good, IIRC.
  3. Hmm, wonder where he is? Hope it's celebrating properly!
  4. Yeah, I almost bought that one too! I've not heard that it ranks too highly, and Beirach is not one of my go-to guys on the piano. Still, it's not that common. I guess for $5 I shoulda bought it, but my haul was decent enough as it is and now that I finally got all my LPs out of storage, space IS a problem...
  5. Right, that's what I meant, additional to the LP-released material.
  6. Really nice interview with Haden linked there from Do the Math.
  7. As I understand it (and maybe Chuck can correct me if needed), these will be reissued as singles with additional material in the future.
  8. Chicks don't dig Wilbur Harden?
  9. This would be in the special collections and probably one would apply for access.
  10. The Michael Cosmic LP... seen ONE copy (a friend has it). Never on eBay or offered on any lists I've seen. It is really, really good. Whipped out the checkbook and my friend said "no way!"
  11. Why would you want one single source for the history as diverse and complex as that of this music?
  12. Not a follower of the label at all, but Machine Music looks interesting.
  13. Yes, welcome. Good choice of a handle. Still waiting for the Cairo Free Jazz Ensemble to either magically show up at my doorstep in LP form or for somebody to reissue it.
  14. Sounds neat. Have to look out for it. Bet there are sealed copies floating around in NYC.
  15. Glad to see this one is finally being properly reissued. I have an original vinyl and it's a fantastic session of weighty, vamp-based and searing modern jazz. Reece deserves a hell of a lot more recognition for his post-BN career.
  16. Where? Don't have that one. Only thing on the BNs box I need, other than the unreleased tracks, is the '64 session. What to do...
  17. So if RVG wasn't ramping up the compression, the trebly sound wouldn't be as much of a problem, and v.v.
  18. From a friend of mine who is now out of music:
  19. I'm bumping this because I've been thinking recently about RVG remasters vs. McMasters. There are a lot of RVG-related threads and discussions, and maybe I'm beating a dead horse (1) and bringing it up in an irrelevant topic (2). How much compression is RVG using vs. McMaster? It seems like Rudy is using more to me, but not being an expert in this end of things, I don't know. Having compared RVG editions of the Ike Quebec records with the McMaster Conns, I prefer the latter - to me, they seem "hotter." Anybody care to weigh in or point me to a better discussion of this topic?
  20. It's chewy. Shouldn't that be self-explanatory?
  21. Great news. Congratulations! I have a couple of dear friends with advanced prostate cancer and it's really tough business.
  22. Any relation to guitarist Ed Speight of Graham Collier Music? I have the two Bernie McGann albums on Emanem. They're pretty nice.
  23. I really like the Chatham Square LPs and the Shandar (which is raw). I have one of the Virgin 12 Parts and wish I had the full vinyl boxed set. Yes, he's overexposed, but in spite of that he's created some interesting music. And Chuck Close's portrait is great, nose hairs and all!
  24. Man, I'm broke too, but that's why these boards are great.
