  1. Good way of putting it, Jim, though I admit I'm not always in the "fan" camp re: Oliver Nelson. That said, I don't need the obvious to surprise me, either. Afro/American Sketches wasn't really what I was expecting, which might've been less programmatic than what I get from the music. But some of those early Prestige small group sides are really nice.
  2. Love Mal, like Murray sometimes.
  3. Looks decent. Better review in the NY'er than I think Ratliff and Chinen put together.
  4. The Francois Tusques/Sunny Murray material needs a reissue - hell, it'd fit on one disc! That Guitars Derive is really nice, too, in the pantheon of obscure minimal-music recordings. The Dashiell Hedayat/Gong thing was also put out on CD. But without the nice, textured cover of the orig.
  5. And the Ragnar Grippe.
  6. RIP. I have a lot of 'em, but they're all in storage boxes and can't be played right now.
  7. Probably more than a thousand pressed. I feel like I've seen it a number of times on offer over the past few years.
  8. Andrew Hill - One For One - (BN twofer) "Pax" session, sides three and four.
  9. Sunny Murray - Charred Earth - (Kharma)
  10. Attila Zoller - The Horizon Beyond - (Emarcy stereo orig) w/ Don Friedman, Barre Phillips and Daniel Humair.
  11. My copy of The Missing Link still has feathers in the jacket.
  12. Don Heckman & Ed Summerlin - Improvisational Jazz Workshop - (Ictus) 2nd issue, without the book and not silkscreened.
  13. The dust blows forward and the dust blows back...
  14. Wayne Shorter - The All-Seeing Eye - (BN Liberty stereo)
  15. Another one goes the distance... Hank Mobley
  16. Glad I'm not the only one who disagreed (if in my own head, privately) with the Lexington statement. I believe this is one of the more expensive copies of it I've seen, though.
  17. Jemeel Moondoc & Muntu - First Feeding - (Muntu)
  18. Ornette paid his dues in rock and roll and "walked the bar" for the people. I think he believes that his music is not so erudite as to be appreciable by a vast number of people.
  19. William Hooker - ...is Eternal Life - (Reality Unit Concepts)
  20. Mis-grading on used items. Like the "Sealed" that was open and VG, with heavy ring wear!
  21. I've got "The Magic City" in this series, it's a Scorpio product. In fact once I finished checking most of the new vinyl I've bought in the last three years ( about 20 titles) are Scorpios, none sound great. All are passable IMO but then again I've got nothing to compare to. Scorpio resissues seem to cover Blue Note, Prestige, Time, Saturn, Inner City, Vortex , quite a range, no idea if they're all mastered from DAT but I'm avoiding them now. How is Scorpio getting the rights to these? BN excepted, I assumed these were boots or dubious licenses.
  22. I could use that, too.
  23. I quit ordering LPs from them a while back because of so many problems.
