  1. Now that I've ditched the Ginsberg beard, I use a Schick head on a nice, heavy steel shaft.
  2. Paul Metzger - Gedanken-splitter - (Roaratorio)
  3. Right, and there's no Tony Snell on India Navigation!
  4. I wouldn't be surprised, but Chuck probably knows more. I also heard a rumor that Bernard Stollman gave his "blessing" to Cummins to pick up where ESP left off - whatever that means!
  5. I guess I never realized there was a For Two Pianos on Arista. Those small group records are classics.
  6. Thanks, Ed. My copy of the Jarman and the LeRoi are both in storage and hadn't recalled that from Figi's liners. I don't have the Fire Music book you reference, but will have to keep an eye out. FWIW, I wasn't too impressed by the Tribe records I heard, though they seem a curious/unique lot. If I'm able to make successful contact with Moore, I'll follow up on these. It'd surely be interesting to hear from him if there was another tangent to his playing which has no recorded legacy.
  7. Paul Metzger - Four Improvisations on Modified Banjo and Guitar - (Nero's Neptune)
  8. Alan Skidmore/Elton Dean/John Marshall/Chris Laurence - El Skid - (Vinyl)
  9. I would buy the Braxton set in a second.
  10. Apropos of the "unissued" Reid Miles covers, I think that Dimensions & Extensions is one of those at-the-time-unissued BNs that may have had quite an impact. The ensemble writing is really spectacular. Thoughts?
  11. Wow, I normally try to stay away from The Man.
  12. Actually, there are some things I would avoid for $5. That $5 is a sandwich or a beer and a half to some of us! That Gonzalez is pretty hot - Eskelin is in fine form.
  13. I saw her in two gigs that weren't all that successful, but it wasn't her fault. Have enjoyed her readings of Annette Peacock tunes and Amaryllis as well.
  14. I think I liked him best either in duo with Cooper-Moore or sitting in with In Order To Survive.
  15. Yeah, the Murray titles on the label are sweet, and that's a great place to start! I've long had a fondness for the Alan Braufman, which isn't on CD. It's a very early recording of Cooper-Moore, then going by his birth name, Gene Ashton. Though they don't get a lot of love by some, I think the minimal music issued on the label is pretty great - Yoshi Wada, Arnold Dreyblatt, Phill Niblock.
  16. Not compared to here, nope!
  17. The unaccompanied bit reminded me a bit of JR Monterose.
  18. Yeah, Buell spoke of that one when I interviewed him. He also mentioned working with Andrew White around that time. HG, I think you should still be able to get Silkheart CDs from places like Birka Jazz or other Scandinavian online shops. Jazz Loft and Northcountry also get 'em in as overstock from time to time. The Gayles are solid enough. There's also some great records by Dennis Gonzalez, Steve Lacy and Alvin Fielder on the label. You should dig in deep!
  19. I may have that one somewhere - can't recall if I kept it. It's funny, when I interviewed Sunny, I'll be damned if he could pronounce Assif's name - it was always "whatever the cat's name is..."
  20. Far more intriguing is this: World's 2nd Greatest Music Collection
  21. A load of 'my dick's bigger than yours' stuff going on at that board - as in 'my subscription number is lower than yours'. Jeez.. A while back I did a mean thing on the board. Under the thread asking about subscription numbers I said I had a number that was the same as someone else who had recently signed up but hadn't received any records yet. I think it freaked him out a little. I did it to underscore the rediculousness of such dick measuring but I probably shouldn't have done it. I ignored his questions regarding my number (I'm not a subscriber) too which probably caused him to lose a little sleep.
