  1. Overall it's Marion Brown, tough guy even for german producers Well, considering the recordings he was doing around that time for Calig, Freedom and Century, it's bound to be a little wild! Most of the early ECM catalog is pretty interesting and fairly "free," though I've got some good ones on LP well into the 1100s.
  2. Never really thought of those as "action," tho I guess my choice of Rififi is similar to yours...
  3. Various - For Example, Workshop Freie Musik 1969-1978 - (FMP) Record 3, Different Orchestras, currently the Breuker Kollektief.
  4. Manfred Schoof - Voices - (CBS orig) w/ Schlippenbach, Dudek, Niebergall and Jaki Liebezeit why Schoof's '60s small-group sides haven't been reissued on CD I'll never understand.
  5. Really? I thought they were now totally independent.
  6. The first 30 minutes are really, really well done.
  7. Anybody know if there's still a Blue Note? I wished them luck in a mail regarding a proposition for a Mosaic Select, and in his recent (well probably two weeks by now) reply, MC said they didn't know anything about their future yet... I guess it takes a while to evaluate things and decide how to milk that cow... Mosaic has obviously been milking a lot of other cows for a long time. They aren't an EMI property, so I'm sure their future is fine. They really do need to get on that Braxton Arista set, though!
  8. The most I would pay for that is $20. Maybe $30 if it was glossy...
  9. Forgot about that one - yeah, that was really good.
  10. Yeah, nothing wrong with having a minor title on Transition, just because...
  11. Hope it's a great one!
  12. Not the same . The only part of that Wardell twofer that has Frank Morgan is the sextet stuff with Teddy Charles , and that's from '53 . Thanks, now I remember... it's hard to keep track right now because 95% of my vinyl is inaccessible. (and I don't just mean musically...)
  13. Now: Paul Motian - Tribute - (ECM German issue) Been spinning/enjoying this one a fair bit lately.
  14. I assume that's not the same Jazz Groove (JG) that issued the Altena concerts.
  15. Well, since it's about $5, it does - if there's a way to contact the seller!
  16. My list is, indeed, slightly artsy-fartsy. Ichii the Killer Hard-boiled Rififi French Connection The Bourne trilogy Casino Royale ...surely there are more, but that's all I can remember right now.
  17. And it's a reliable measure of the insanity of constantly increasing prices!
  18. Spider John Koerner - Spider Blues - (Elektra gold label stereo) with a side of Cragganmore 12.
  19. I guess I hadn't come across a Wardell session for GNP. There's a Prestige twofer LP that contains material with a strikingly similar band; if it weren't in storage, I'd look to see if it is in fact identical.
  20. Germs - (GI) - (Slash, 2nd press)
  21. It's really, really good.
  22. Wolfgang Dauner - Output - (ECM orig)
  23. I guess they couldn't resist that white label, similar to early Riverside, some OJC have. It makes those "Sound of Sonny" looks like the real deal, especially with a blurred Ebay picture... please add the typical Ebay "more money than brain (and eyes, and knowledge)" behaviour, and you have an explanation of those 500 $. Try $599, not $500: http://cgi.ebay.com/Sound-Of-SONNY-ROLLINS...bayphotohosting I have seen this ebay listing many times...is it a sincere mistake ? or a very bad scam ? other reissues are lsited in the price range ... anyway, nobody "bought it now". Somebody bought it!
  24. I'm sure the buyer doesn't know and doesn't care.
