  1. New York Art Quartet - Mohawk - (Dutch Fontana orig)
  2. Wolfgang Dauner - Output - (ECM) w/ Eberhard Weber and Fred Braceful
  3. Theo Loevendie - Kwartet - (Universe) w/ Dulfer, Gorter, van Duynhoven Love this band, and the tunes!
  4. Trane/Shepp - New Thing at Newport - (Impulse! red/black)
  5. I still get a kick out of this, gentleman that I am...
  6. Just Wailin' - w/ Charlie Rouse, Mal Waldron, Kenny Burrell et al., on New Jazz. The Village Gate records on Atlantic. Memphis Underground is not bad, actually. The Savoy always looked really cool to me, though I haven't heard it. He could definitely "play" and had a penchant for, when he was on, surrounding himself with good players.
  7. Sad news. I recall a nice interview with him a year or two ago in AAJ.
  8. Bought (and still have) a mono copy in 1968. Still play it and enjoy it. Very scarce in the mono these days...
  9. For you, not for me...
  10. Free jazz isn't an option in this questionnaire? Even Ken Burns might've allowed for that!
  11. Alexander von Schlippenbach Trio - Pakistani Pomade - (FMP)
  12. I don't know about the reissue, but the original has a very nice textured sleeve. Good to rub on a freshly-shaven cheek.
  13. Writing, reading, thinking, being. The AAJ interview might elucidate some things for some people.
  14. I thought Windmill Tilter was reissued.
  15. Now: Ahmed Abdullah - Life's Force - (About Time) w/ Muneer Fatah, Rashied Sinan, Vincent Chancey, Jay Hoggard and Jerome Hunter
  16. Yes, excellent, with Rene Liebowitz directing the symphony. I like the sound, too, though it may not be up to "modern" presence... Whoops, left out the "Op." there. This is the only Dial classical I have, but it's a fantastic disc. Possible that some of Ross' correspondence from you is in the Ross Russell papers here at the Harry Ransom Center.
  17. Wardell Gray - Memorial Album - (Prestige twofer, blue label)
  18. The only Gaslini I have is Nuovi Sentimenti, from '66, with Barbieri, Lacy, Cherry, Rava, Kent Carter, J-F Jenny Clark, Giani Bedori, Franco Tonani and Aldo Romano. It's a motherfucker, but I've always thought it sounded a little like Mantler or Carla Bley (which would make sense, given the period and some of the personnel). Africa! is on my list as well ...dunno if anyone here has heard it.
  19. Right, and Cardew's famous book is "Stockhausen Serves Imperialism." Even seemingly "free" composers like Kagel are known to push the sounds around quite a bit...
  20. Webern - Symphony / SQ #5 & 9 - (Dial) Listening to the quartets... haven't spun 'em in years.
  21. Happy Birthday, Dave. My favorite record is probably Ornette's Change of the Century.
  22. I really want that Gil Melle, but I even get outbid at high prices on the King pressing!
  23. Even before I was into jazz, I listened to my dad's Stockhausen, Nono, Kagel and Cage LPs. He was certainly a formative influence, despite revising my opinions of his work in recent years. RIP, and thank you.
  24. Nice new avatar!
