  1. I'll spin the Blue Notes later today, I think. Whilst waiting for the Riverside box to arrive, naturally! Happy Birthday Mr. Monk!
  2. Thanks - sounds just up my street. I like the Vertigo more; it's different, more funky and a bit wild - it's called Dedicated to You, But You Weren't Listening (from a tune written by Hugh Hopper).
  3. It's a good record - of course "early" and some of the ideas aren't totally jelled. Kind of like a mid-quality Graham Collier record, maybe?
  4. Keith Tippett - You are Here I am There - (Polydor Japanese issue) w/ Elton Dean, Nick Evans, Marc Charig, Jeff Clyne and Alan Jackson
  5. Jack Bruce - Songs For A Tailor - (Atco pressing) w/ Harry Beckett, Henry Lowther, John Mumford, Dick Heckstall-Smith, Art Themen, Jon Hiseman, Chris Spedding, and "L'Angelo Mysterioso..."
  6. Will you be having a DaimlerChrysler with that?
  7. Val Stoecklein - Grey Life - (Dot/Paramount orig) Solid singer-songwriter LP from the former leader of the Blue Things. Jayhawk pride!
  8. Neil Young - Decade - (Reprise Teldec German pressing) LP one...
  9. Yeah, that's a good one. Think I got my vinyl of that for around $5!
  10. Hope Skid's threads don't have "Skid marks!"
  11. Didn't they put out an Ornette record also?
  12. Battered Ornaments - Mantlepiece - (Harvest US pressing)
  13. Oooh! Cool! (studied those in my audio preservation and reformatting class)
  14. Anyone heard that Frank Foster Loud Minority LP on Mainstream? Tales from "the day" often mention how good they were live.
  15. I really need to be better about picking up some of these while they're still cheap. My vinyl fetish takes over and sometimes I forget about the music ...
  16. Lemme guess: Target corporate on Nicollet Mall? Right now, dirty navy cords, a Hanes v-neck t-shirt (white) with a few holes in it, and scuffed brown leather oxfords. I like my wardrobe. Target requires suits, so no, but you're close. Care to try again? Man, it's been years since I've been within ten feet of any scene on Nicollet. US Bank? Wells Fargo? Honeywell? (the company, not the punk band) General Mills? I give up. Best Buy. Probably the least formal (thank heaven) of all your guesses, and all major companies in the Twin Cities, for that matter. Oh right. I had a couple of acquaintances who did graphic design for them. I worked at Wells Fargo in their home mortgage division for a little while and hated it. I did wear what I wanted to, however, and put clients on hold because Bill Dixon was calling my cell phone!
  17. Yeah, I'm no fan of Meyer either (nor was I when he wrote for Magnet and maybe AP [that's "Alternative Press"] back in the 90s), but the other guys you mention, Bill, are dandy. Warburton's always a kick and I wish he were still editing Paris Transatlantic!
  18. I know I'm all pinko for saying this, but I hope most of the sales aren't to people who will resell it at a higher "OOP" price... that just bugs me.
  19. I'd really like to get that one, but always get outbid on the 'puter. Got my copy at a reasonable price just two weeks ago. I hope it wasn't you a couple of dollars behind me... Yeah, that sounds about right! Oh well, now you're out of the picture and I can continue hunting!
  20. Alan Silva's Celestrial Communications Orchestra Ted Daniel & Energy Toshiyuki Miyama's New Herd Orchestra Don Ellis Orchestra Lester Bowie's Brass Fantasy (not to mention the European orchestras of the early '70s) William Parker - Little Huey Creative Music Orchestra Horace Tapscott & the Pan-African People's Arkestra some of the Company orchestras (Derek Bailey, Evan Parker & whomever they got to join them) Globe Unity (duh) ostensibly led by Alex von Schlippenbach John Tchicai's Cadentia Nova Danica Willem Breuker Kollektif The Jazz Composers Orchestra The Creative Musicians Improvisers' Orchestra Bill Dixon's Orchestra of the University of the Streets Chris McGregor's Brotherhood of Breath Manfred Schoof's European Echoes band (mo'f'n hurricane of an LP!) Will think on more, gotta get to work.
