  1. I've always thought those ESP Sampler LPs with one-minute excerpts were really odd.
  2. Thurston at least had more sense of humor about it...
  3. On deck: Joseph Scianni & David Izenzon - Man Running - (Savoy)
  4. I couldn't get a sound clip of your roofing torch going. Am I missing something?
  5. Well, actually... Some of the tracks are kind of "diddling" around in the yards, but in college, I used to blast the acetylene torch tracks out of the dorm room. I have 100+ hours of recordings of asphalt roofing kettles that I've made over the past few decades (with an excerpt released on disc here.) I think that the "Junkyard" LP was probably an influence. Whetting my appetite, indeed...
  6. That's a great set. The book alone is worth the whole set...
  7. I've always wanted that 'Sounds of the Junkyard' LP on Folkways. Rod probably has it.
  8. Bengt "Frippe" Nordstrom, a favorite of mine... On the white plastic alto, to boot. That is what we're talking about, right?
  9. Not to mention that that box may not exist either!
  10. Awesome! Happy Birthday! Will spin Compulsion for you later on!
  11. I actually knew a guy who used to steal rare LPs from collections in Kansas City. I never got anything from him that I know of, but it always creeped me out. My parents were robbed of jewelry, cash, CDs and laptops while they were trying to sell their house. It so happens that thieves use the occasion to case joints, acting like potential buyers. In fact, while a house in my hometown was being shown, thieves drove up in a tractor-trailer and fucking cleaned the house out, top to bottom! The neighbors just assumed that they were the movers!
  12. Guess it's the real deal. I like how you can "buy now and save" with the Complete On The Corner box!
  13. If you have a turntable, the LPs run about $5-$7 apiece...
  14. Yes, and mine even has the poster!
  15. Sir Richard Bishop - Polytheistic Fragments - (Drag City)
  16. In my experience, the pressings aren't as good, fwiw.
  17. Missed it, will have to seek it out. Wasn't Arthur kinda on the skids a bit lately, or is that just my mind? Bishop ain't boring to say the least (neither is Coley, even if he seems sometimes like he just puked onto the page, it's still interesting to read him at his most half-baked, if I'm reading right into what you're saying).
  18. I thought Chadbourne's writeups/send-ups of Paul Bley on AMG were pretty funny, even if (or maybe especially because) I did enjoy the records he was bashing.
  19. Stockhausen - Kontakte (Tenney/Winant) - (Ecstatic Peace!)
  20. Meyer used to write for the Big Takeover, right? And of course Magnet, but I can't remember much before those. The new Rick Bishop on (ulp!) Drag City is okay, but Salvador Kali was such an early high water mark in his career that... oh, I dunno, forget it. C "no comment" T
  21. A writeup on Allen Lowe would be interesting, seriously.
  22. I'd buy it for the rust alone... pretty cool-looking if you ask me!
  23. I get paid at the end of the week and will donate then...
