  1. Ditto. Once I get my degree in December, I hope to move back to Chicago or out West. We'll see.
  2. Art Farmer - Evening in Casablanca - (New Jazz orig) w/ Gryce, Duke Jordan, Addison Farmer & Philly Joe...
  3. Pharaoh Sanders - Pharaoh - (ESP orig, silkscreened cover) w/ Stan Foster, Janie Getz, Marvin Patillo and William Bennett.
  4. That's ridiculous.
  5. I'd be a little leery of anything in "fair" (i.e., beat) condition ...think it came out first with the trumpeter logo but I could be mistaken.
  6. Kofsky's book is an interesting historical document. He did seem like he was a bit of a nutjob, though.
  7. Yes! Even though most folks think of him as primarily a tenor player he's also a force on the alto. Great shot of Wheels - that cat can really blow!
  8. Never heard of this cat, but now I'm interested in hearing him. That's the beauty of this thread: a constant calling to listen to new people/groups. JSangry has certianly mentioned a ton of music that I've never heard of before. I'll bet it's great. I don't know much of his playing, but I've heard a few tunes arranged by others and like them very much. Namely Rudd's version of "Everywhere," which slays...
  9. Dave Burrell - Echo - (BYG Actuel orig)
  10. Kinda like the Flexi-Sex discs Trunk have put out recently.
  11. I'd shit if anyone covered "Sov Gott Rose-Marie"... Thurston's a goofball, enthused and sometimes over-enthused, but he's probably done more good than harm in the long run. I mean, he wasn't just mindlessly touting the Alabama Feeling LP, but reissued it on CD a few years after that Grand Royal article and put out/bankrolled some of Doyle's other recordings on Ecstatic Peace and other labels. I mean, not that Doyle's the greatest player on earth but you gotta respect Moore's helpful enthusiasm. He did a lot of cool shit with that DGC A&R bonus, I'll tell you that much...
  12. Of course, but those photographs are beautiful!
  13. I've always thought those ESP Sampler LPs with one-minute excerpts were really odd.
  14. Thurston at least had more sense of humor about it...
  15. On deck: Joseph Scianni & David Izenzon - Man Running - (Savoy)
  16. I couldn't get a sound clip of your roofing torch going. Am I missing something?
  17. Well, actually... Some of the tracks are kind of "diddling" around in the yards, but in college, I used to blast the acetylene torch tracks out of the dorm room. I have 100+ hours of recordings of asphalt roofing kettles that I've made over the past few decades (with an excerpt released on disc here.) I think that the "Junkyard" LP was probably an influence. Whetting my appetite, indeed...
  18. That's a great set. The book alone is worth the whole set...
  19. I've always wanted that 'Sounds of the Junkyard' LP on Folkways. Rod probably has it.
  20. Bengt "Frippe" Nordstrom, a favorite of mine... On the white plastic alto, to boot. That is what we're talking about, right?
  21. Not to mention that that box may not exist either!
  22. Awesome! Happy Birthday! Will spin Compulsion for you later on!
  23. I actually knew a guy who used to steal rare LPs from collections in Kansas City. I never got anything from him that I know of, but it always creeped me out. My parents were robbed of jewelry, cash, CDs and laptops while they were trying to sell their house. It so happens that thieves use the occasion to case joints, acting like potential buyers. In fact, while a house in my hometown was being shown, thieves drove up in a tractor-trailer and fucking cleaned the house out, top to bottom! The neighbors just assumed that they were the movers!
