  1. Well, Kuhn looks like a chick in some of the photos on the gatefold...
  2. Yeah, I trade CD-Rs of live material, too. I don't do Dime or other sites, but I encounter people with lists of "trade" stuff on the web. I've gotten a lot of good things that way, and I think it's a fine procedure as long as no one is profiting monetarily from such practices.
  3. A-fuckin'-men! I don't know why, but this Lonehill release pisses me off more than any of the others. Maybe it's because I know they downloaded it from Dime, where some kind soul shared it with the world free of charge. I got this from Dime the day it was uploaded there, and I'd be glad to "share" with anyone who wants a copy... just shoot me a PM. Cheers, Shane PM sent. This looks freakin' awesome.
  4. I heard they could be "smoothed out" by some special machine-method but that it would just replace the clicks with a continuous "whoosh."
  5. He got busted and his cabaret card was yanked shortly after this, and he moved back upstate to get his shit together. I like the one on Heavy Soul, Alive in Amsterdam - Paradiso, from '69 with Bennink, Groentjie, Jan Jacobs and Steve Boston. Burning!!!
  6. I look forward to reading this more in-depth. Was just giving Charles Tyler's Eastern Man Alone a spin last night, with Baker on cello.
  7. Max Roach - The Loadstar - (Horo) w/ Billy Harper, Cecil Bridgewater and Reggie Workman
  8. cliff - did you mean Art Farmer or Thad Jones? I have a copy of the Jazztone and Thad is the trumpeter. Brain fart. At least I didn't say "Mel Lewis!"
  9. Abdullah Ibrahim & Carlos Ward - Live at Sweet Basil, vol. 1 - (Ekapa)
  10. Last time I was at Blue Note I scored a really nice copy of Joe Henderson Our Thing, NY USA Stereo, for $20, and a few decent Folkways titles for about $8 apiece. It wasn't a bad haul, especially since I was only in Miami for an afternoon all told...
  11. I've seen Alex Coke blow some fine, fine shit since I've been here - he's one that can certainly be called on, though I hear his actual albums aren't all that hot. Tina Marsh seemed more histrionics than anything else to me, but perhaps it wasn't the right setting. Why don't more people talk up Vinny Golia, post- or no-post- ?
  12. Joe Daley - At Newport '63 - (RCA-Victor mono orig) w/ Hal Russell and Russell Thorne
  13. Then: Charlie Mingus - Jazz Composers' Workshop #2 - (Savoy maroon label) w/ Teo Macero, George Barrow, Kenny Clarke, Mal Waldron and Wally Cirillo, among others. Now: Charlie Mingus - Jazz Experiment - (Jazz Tone) w/ Art Farmer, Clem De Rosa, Teo Macero, Jackson Wiley and John LaPorta
  14. How does one search within the WKCR broadcasts to get that nugget? I'd like to hear it.
  15. Gunter Hampel/Jeanne Lee/Perry Robinson - Spirits - (Birth)
  16. Prince Lasha told me he was thought to be a junkie, and they took away his insulin needles because they thought they were for smack, leading to the fiasco that killed him.
  17. I wish I could find it. Only 300$ on Amazon & ebay. You could get all the LPs together for less than $50. The only one of those that I really liked was the Sunny Murray/Roscoe Mitchell split. I think that was Volume 5.
  18. Carlos Barretto - Lokomotiv Carlos Barretto - Radio Song Amado/Zingaro/Filiano - The Space Between Ze Eduardo - A Jazzar no Zeca Paulo/Curado/Pedroso - As Sete Ilhas de Lisboa Bernardo Sassetti - Ascent Bernardo Sassetti - Indigos
  19. That is one of the many avatar creations of AfricaBrass, who used to hang here quite a bit. Wish he'd come back, too! Thanks. Now I kinda wish that there was music to go with that hip cover! The font was nicked from Tyrone Washington's Natural Essence, on Blue Note.
  20. RIP Moose. Hope you are able to find a way to honor him that isn't heartbreaking.
  21. Many of Bley's tapes were torched in an apartment fire in the '70s. Who knows what's left...
  22. I saw him once and was hoping he would be better than he turned out to be... oh well.
