  1. Her father came out publicly and asked her fans to STOP buying her CD's so that she wouldn't be able to keep up her destructive lifestyle and would be forced to get the help she needs. I haven't really heard her music, one of those musical things I expect to get around to someday without a lot of urgency attached to it. It's not terrible, not great either. In terms of UK songstresses of late, I prefer Lily Allen by FAR. She needs to split up with Blake Fielder-Civil if she's gonna straighten out. I don't see that happening anytime soon.
  2. Silver Apples - s/t - (Kapp wlp, no poster)
  3. Jeez ! What label is that one on? Touch & Go. They were a really good band.
  4. I think I read just yesterday that most of these are fake. Really?! That makes her seem even more idiotic than she already does...
  5. I have a New York stereo of the record; think the bass was thin but haven't spun it in a while. Not my favorite Sam Rivers session, but it's decent.
  6. Nice! In the dubious spirit of the original thread, I'll add Theo Loevendie to the mix also.
  7. Oooh, nice! I just submitted it to Meg at Cute Overload...
  8. Ditto. Once I get my degree in December, I hope to move back to Chicago or out West. We'll see. You could move to Newark. I was thinking about it not too long ago!

  10. Art Farmer - Evening in Casablanca - (New Jazz orig) w/ Gryce, Duke Jordan, Addison Farmer & Philly Joe...
  11. Pharaoh Sanders - Pharaoh - (ESP orig, silkscreened cover) w/ Stan Foster, Janie Getz, Marvin Patillo and William Bennett.
  12. That's ridiculous.
  13. I'd be a little leery of anything in "fair" (i.e., beat) condition ...think it came out first with the trumpeter logo but I could be mistaken.
  14. Kofsky's book is an interesting historical document. He did seem like he was a bit of a nutjob, though.
  15. Yes! Even though most folks think of him as primarily a tenor player he's also a force on the alto. Great shot of Wheels - that cat can really blow!
  16. Never heard of this cat, but now I'm interested in hearing him. That's the beauty of this thread: a constant calling to listen to new people/groups. JSangry has certianly mentioned a ton of music that I've never heard of before. I'll bet it's great. I don't know much of his playing, but I've heard a few tunes arranged by others and like them very much. Namely Rudd's version of "Everywhere," which slays...
  17. Dave Burrell - Echo - (BYG Actuel orig)
  18. Kinda like the Flexi-Sex discs Trunk have put out recently.
  19. I'd shit if anyone covered "Sov Gott Rose-Marie"... Thurston's a goofball, enthused and sometimes over-enthused, but he's probably done more good than harm in the long run. I mean, he wasn't just mindlessly touting the Alabama Feeling LP, but reissued it on CD a few years after that Grand Royal article and put out/bankrolled some of Doyle's other recordings on Ecstatic Peace and other labels. I mean, not that Doyle's the greatest player on earth but you gotta respect Moore's helpful enthusiasm. He did a lot of cool shit with that DGC A&R bonus, I'll tell you that much...
  20. Of course, but those photographs are beautiful!
  21. I've always thought those ESP Sampler LPs with one-minute excerpts were really odd.
  22. Thurston at least had more sense of humor about it...
  23. On deck: Joseph Scianni & David Izenzon - Man Running - (Savoy)
