  1. Great, thanks, couldn't find it..
  2. There's also the English 'brass band' variant of the cornet, which is somewhat shorter than the US variety. The US cornet also sounds a bit more 'fluegely' to my ears...
  3. Looking forward to participating in this one - not least to check out also that Woody Shaw 2CD combo
  4. Kenny Wheeler 'Song For Someone' (Incus)
  5. Indeed ! Especially looking at recent photos of the youthful Herbie, the Peter Pan of jazz...
  6. A bit more added 21/03/05.
  7. A bit more added 21/5/05
  8. Is 'All Sides Now' worth picking up? How does it compare with 'Think Tank' and 'Yoshis' in terms of quality?
  9. "Hi babe, wanna see my Lexington framed flat edges and 47W63rd deep-grooves?"
  10. RIP - but still not a popular man in these here parts after de-frauding HM Government.
  11. This Sonny Clark Trio has gone ballistic, and still over a day to go.. Sonny Clark Trio LP
  12. Certainly one of the best and most consistent live performers I have heard. His sense of time is something else. In terms of recordings, I agree with the earlier comment that the 'Cross Country Tour' is the one to get.
  13. Up for a bit more discussion about Pat Martino. I've only just checked out 'Think Tank' (better late than never) after seeing him play much of this stuff live. Like it ! Great to hear his version of Joe Ford's 'Earthlings' on this album - talk about obscure song titles. This album is way better than some of the writeups (e.g. Penguin Guide). Don't let these put you off. Recommended ! Pat is back in the UK at Ronnie Scotts this Summer - can't come quickly enough.. B-)
  14. Dizzy Reece - 'Progress Report'. Jasmine reissue
  15. Thanks for the info, joeface. A few familiar names on that one (Crosby, Wallen, Watkis). Looks interesting !
  16. Up from the archives for this one. Can't believe I've only just got hold of a copy - missed it when it came out and found a second hand copy yesterday. Time capsule and a half, this one. Should have been reissued on 8-track. An excellent reissue though - 'Oblighetto' certainly works for me, great spacy vocals. Love the groove put down by Richard Davis too on bass. OK - the session is of its time - but certainly no worse for that. Great music, great thread.. :rsmile: 'Made In Sweden' just spinning. Love it ! Can't see the connection with Sweden though... (Ikea? porn? hmmmm )
  17. I think the term originated in London with some of the jazz DJs who were spinning Blue Note and rare grooves. People like Gilles Peterson..
  18. I've just discovered the show. Wonderful music selections. 'Destination Out' with Moncur and McLean is on as I write ( ). Great work !!
  19. No excuse !! Get back to the 'vinyl forum' pronto !
  20. Interesting (but expensive) concept. I've got several sets in both the CD and LP format (for example the Shorty Rogers) as although the preference is for LPs, the CD versions can come in extremely useful (for example, listening in the bath ).
  21. Hopefully Mosaic will also put out the vinyl of this. 9LPs I guess?
  22. Interesting. The UK publication was silver with blue lettering. Published by Aquarius Books.
  23. I need a new tool box for the car so I may be on the look-out for this set...
  24. Freddie Roach 'Mo' Greens Please'. This one is the NY USA mono original but also deep-grooved on both sides. Most unusual for this title. To be followed up with Paul Desmont 'Live at Bourbon Street' (A&M Horizon, 2LPs). Recorded live at a club in Toronto.
