  1. Yet another reason to shell out.. B-)
  2. Horace Parlan 'On The Spur of the Moment' NY USA, deep-groove both sides
  3. That was exactly my first thought.
  4. How about some of the stuff from accordianist Stian Cartensen? Notably his duet recordings with Ian Ballamy.
  5. Second your recommendation John about 'Modern Jazz - The Essential Records', the silver book from 1975. I bought it when it first came out (broke me at the time ) and have used it extensively ever since. A superb publication from Msrs Morgan, Harrison, James and Co - some of the very best British jazz critics. Thanks for the advisory about the Fresh Sounds LP. I nearly bought one the other week, glad I didn't.
  6. I've got the feeling that that album was on the list of ECMs that have still to make it to CD. I have the vinyl - very nice session, a good complement to the ECM Priesters of that vintage.
  7. I'm glad to see the Ike Quebec 45s up for release - that Mosaic has always eluded me, always seem to be outbid on it. One less Mosaic to tick off the list..
  8. Great to see the cover of the Sandy Brown 'Hair at its Hairiest' LP in this collection, I took the opportunity to update my avatar. The 'Hair' LP cover is one of the all-time favourites in my collection (bought from Oxfam, great find ). Strange that they don't have a cover for the 'Windmill Tilter' but they do have one for the rare Deram Skidmore !
  9. Wooah ! Thanks for posting this. I've had my eye on the Milburn set, hoping to pick it up eventually at one of their sales. Looks like my hand has been forced.. Besides, the Charles Brown set needs a companion !
  10. May the Andrew Hill force be with you. Happy Birthday !
  11. Wasn't he a Swedish guy called Strom? I seem to recall that he is featured in the 'Ed Wood' move which covers the making of this 'classic'..
  12. Yep, that's bound to increase the value of the Euro set when it goes OOP. Even more so if you ding it !
  13. Lee Morgan disk 1 will be going on in a short while..
  14. The only copies of 'Tome VI' that I have ever seen have been cutouts. Looks like the number of full price sales of this LP must be miniscule.
  15. That is a quite a rare one, YRH, so rare that I can't even find my copy in the racks ( ) as we speak. Wonderful album too, possibly my favourite Melle. The description you give is absolutely identical to mine, including the cut-out hole in the cover. Indeed I saw another one at a record fair recently in exactly the same state. I think I paid about 20 to 25 euros for it over in Germany, so it was a good deal ! Wasn't there a post some time ago on this board saying that the poster (can't remember who it was) had actually sold a copy to Gil Melle, who at that point didn't even have that album?
  16. Up once again to savour these fantastic King LP covers. And also to celebrate my acquisition of a mint copy of 'Inner Glow'
  17. Totally agree with the above comment about Walton - I don't think Hicks ever moved beyond the 'hard bop convention' either, great though his playing on 'Hi Voltage' is.
  18. More added - Monday morning.
  19. Mike Westbrook Orchestra 'Metropolis'. RCA Neon original.
  20. This was one of the boxes that Zweitausendeins listed for a while at about 20 euros ( ). Very enjoyable set of music - nothing earth-shattering but no worse for that. I have some of the Japanese LPs on Atlas and, as has been mention, the sound and production are exemplary.
  21. A bit more added - Sunday evening.
  22. Liam O'Flynn on your lower photo, Bev. Great memories of a performance of 'The Brendan Voyage' that he did with chamber orchestra at RFH about 20 years ago. Those were the days when you could actually park your car for free in the evening right next to the RFH ! B-)
  23. Thanks for the link to cduniverse. Reasonable prices. Still £14 at Amazon UK ( - is the cost of transporting them through the 20 odd miles of the Chunnel really that high?). I think I will go for the Clifford, the Al Shorter, the Frank Wright and the Roswell.
  24. Listed as 'A Caveau' in the discography link. Must indeed be rare - I just saw a copy of the LP sell for £200 . Sorry to hear that Jef Gilson has not been well of late.
