  1. This Sonny Clark Trio has gone ballistic, and still over a day to go.. Sonny Clark Trio LP
  2. Certainly one of the best and most consistent live performers I have heard. His sense of time is something else. In terms of recordings, I agree with the earlier comment that the 'Cross Country Tour' is the one to get.
  3. Up for a bit more discussion about Pat Martino. I've only just checked out 'Think Tank' (better late than never) after seeing him play much of this stuff live. Like it ! Great to hear his version of Joe Ford's 'Earthlings' on this album - talk about obscure song titles. This album is way better than some of the writeups (e.g. Penguin Guide). Don't let these put you off. Recommended ! Pat is back in the UK at Ronnie Scotts this Summer - can't come quickly enough.. B-)
  4. Dizzy Reece - 'Progress Report'. Jasmine reissue
  5. Thanks for the info, joeface. A few familiar names on that one (Crosby, Wallen, Watkis). Looks interesting !
  6. Up from the archives for this one. Can't believe I've only just got hold of a copy - missed it when it came out and found a second hand copy yesterday. Time capsule and a half, this one. Should have been reissued on 8-track. An excellent reissue though - 'Oblighetto' certainly works for me, great spacy vocals. Love the groove put down by Richard Davis too on bass. OK - the session is of its time - but certainly no worse for that. Great music, great thread.. :rsmile: 'Made In Sweden' just spinning. Love it ! Can't see the connection with Sweden though... (Ikea? porn? hmmmm )
  7. I think the term originated in London with some of the jazz DJs who were spinning Blue Note and rare grooves. People like Gilles Peterson..
  8. I've just discovered the show. Wonderful music selections. 'Destination Out' with Moncur and McLean is on as I write ( ). Great work !!
  9. No excuse !! Get back to the 'vinyl forum' pronto !
  10. Interesting (but expensive) concept. I've got several sets in both the CD and LP format (for example the Shorty Rogers) as although the preference is for LPs, the CD versions can come in extremely useful (for example, listening in the bath ).
  11. Hopefully Mosaic will also put out the vinyl of this. 9LPs I guess?
  12. Interesting. The UK publication was silver with blue lettering. Published by Aquarius Books.
  13. I need a new tool box for the car so I may be on the look-out for this set...
  14. Freddie Roach 'Mo' Greens Please'. This one is the NY USA mono original but also deep-grooved on both sides. Most unusual for this title. To be followed up with Paul Desmont 'Live at Bourbon Street' (A&M Horizon, 2LPs). Recorded live at a club in Toronto.
  15. Yet another reason to shell out.. B-)
  16. Horace Parlan 'On The Spur of the Moment' NY USA, deep-groove both sides
  17. That was exactly my first thought.
  18. How about some of the stuff from accordianist Stian Cartensen? Notably his duet recordings with Ian Ballamy.
  19. Second your recommendation John about 'Modern Jazz - The Essential Records', the silver book from 1975. I bought it when it first came out (broke me at the time ) and have used it extensively ever since. A superb publication from Msrs Morgan, Harrison, James and Co - some of the very best British jazz critics. Thanks for the advisory about the Fresh Sounds LP. I nearly bought one the other week, glad I didn't.
  20. I've got the feeling that that album was on the list of ECMs that have still to make it to CD. I have the vinyl - very nice session, a good complement to the ECM Priesters of that vintage.
  21. I'm glad to see the Ike Quebec 45s up for release - that Mosaic has always eluded me, always seem to be outbid on it. One less Mosaic to tick off the list..
  22. Great to see the cover of the Sandy Brown 'Hair at its Hairiest' LP in this collection, I took the opportunity to update my avatar. The 'Hair' LP cover is one of the all-time favourites in my collection (bought from Oxfam, great find ). Strange that they don't have a cover for the 'Windmill Tilter' but they do have one for the rare Deram Skidmore !
  23. Wooah ! Thanks for posting this. I've had my eye on the Milburn set, hoping to pick it up eventually at one of their sales. Looks like my hand has been forced.. Besides, the Charles Brown set needs a companion !
  24. May the Andrew Hill force be with you. Happy Birthday !
