  1. Just giving this one a listen - the vinyl has been languishing forlornly in my ever-increasing 'pending' pile for some time now. Very nice modern mainstream session with Davis, Dusko Goykovich, Kenny Drew, Jimmy Woode and Al Levitt. All over from the Continent for a bit of London sight-seeing, by the look of it. Recorded by the guys at Mole Jazz back in 1987. I've yet to come across a Nathan Davis session that I don't like... Anyone else like (or know of) this one?
  2. Yes, this one is on the Mosaic set. Some beautiful music on this one, I don't listen to it enough. The lineup of RCA Victor albums included is: 'Take Ten' 'Bossa Antigua' 'Glad To Be Unhappy' 'Easy Living' Theres also material from the Warner Bros 'First Place Again!' and one of the Playboy anthologies (Vol 3).
  3. A mono NY pressing of 'Silver's Serenade'. This is a strangely under-rated session, especially the stuff on side 1.
  4. I'm happy to volunteer to do an AOTW over the next few weeks.
  5. Toshiba pressing of 'Little Johnny C'. A very fine session Duke Pearson indeed !
  6. Its now £200 in mint in the latest UK guide, but even so.. I see that there is another copy on there which looks a bit more 'mint'. Should be worth watching for entertainment over the next few days.. Maybe the publicity on Tooter's site has inflated this one..
  7. More ebay madness, this time featuring my avatar. And not even in mint... here...
  8. Outrageous ! Some of us have searched high and low across the global Mosaic domain (Anchorage to Katmandu) to secure some of the items on this list. How much did the 'bundle' cost, if you don't mind me asking? Those Commodores alone, in good nick, normally come in at around a 'k' or so.
  9. 'Sixth Sense' and 'Caramba' were the first Morgan albums I ever owned. Both on Liberty cassette cutouts. They got worn out within 6 months thanks to the endless plays they got. Still love those sessions !
  10. Gerald Wilson !! With Bill Holman and Colin Towns 'Mask' Orchestra as 'honourable mentions'
  11. I think the bats are still flying around my back garden (unless hibernation has started early this year) so the vibes are right !
  12. Sorry to hear of that experience. At least you came through unscathed ! Of course I meant to say 'Dotheboys Hall' (Nicholas Nickelby, Smike and all that - I think that's what it's called) which seems to have been the 'role model' for many of these so called 'institutions'. West Drayton eh? I used to work there about 20 years ago, know it very well. There was an RAF presence at the ATC Centre - would that be the reason your day was posted there? I have happier memories of the place. Some good pubs along the high street, one of which I recall featured in the movie 'Genevieve' !
  13. Jamie Cullum by a long way. He should take the 'Brit' spot on this list which seems to be given to poor Humph - who has done more for Jazz in the UK via his radio show and live appearances than just about anyone. Big for 'Humph'..
  14. Whoah ! - what place was that? Dildeboys Hall ?
  15. Aaaaaaggggh - don't do this to me... Any new orders taken or recommendations for this set are strictly 'verboten'
  16. The Denny Zeitlin 1960s Columbias come to mind. 'Zeitgeist', 'Cathexis' and 'My Shining Hour - Live at the Trident'. All deserving of wider mention.
  17. Amazing that he didn't already have a copy or 3 !
  18. 'Grant Green Live at the Lighthouse' on the original BN double. To be followed up by Steve Kuhn ECMs 'Trance' and 'Last Year's Waltz' (with Sheila Jordan, Bob Moses and Harvie Swartz)
  19. Hans, that looks to be a pretty neat item that you have there. Haven't a clue, to be honest. A Columbia Europe (Holland) promotional/publicity item, perhaps, for some 'exec' to hang on their wall? (I wasn't even aware that this one had been issued in Europe, all of the pressings I have seen have been US with the red Columbia label typical of the early 1970s). That metal 'master' must sound pretty far out. I gave my vinyl a spin a bit earlier and its total ring modulator madness, especially on 'Hey Jude'. I wonder if the Beatles ever heard that one? If the metal of the 'master' didn't destroy your needle the distortion on the ring modulator sure will.. Great find !
  20. Thanks very much for the kind assistance with this Tooter. Please add me to the list, Dmitry. Look forward to participating..
  21. Don Ellis 'Live at the Fillmore' on Columbia. Side 3 - ring modulator madness !
  22. Don't have the European issue but the US G30243. The side 3 lineup on this is: 1. 'Hey Jude' 2. 'Antea' (Hank Levy) 3. 'Old Man's Tear' (John Klemmer). Track timings on the label exactly as per your details. A pretty wild 2LP set !
  23. This LP sounds to me very much a homage to his Austrian homeland. In parts you can almost sense the herds of cows being herded down the mountain tracks, with the bells ringing (both cows and church that is). Very atmospheric !
  24. Leeway - there was a documentary on BBC4 TV over here last week telling of Loussier's story and rise to fame in the 1960s, after discovery by UK Decca's Paris offshoot. He's not really my 'cup of tea' but there's no doubting the great musicianship and technique. His current trio sounds superbly rehearsed and beautifully co-ordinated. Great programme. BBC4 are on a roll at the moment. Last night it was Jane Monheit at the Brecon Festival. Just giving Dexter Gordon 'Go' a spin. Blue Note BLP 4112. Majesterial !
