Germany has an NHS? 😐😀 Audiologists are licensed to do the tests and trained/licensed, I believe, to use the ultrasonic cleaning tools. If that sort of service was made 'doctor-only' here it would probably never get done (no further comment..) Last time I had it done under NHS coverage it was actually done by a registered nurse.

Believe it or not, I picked up a copy of that one a few years ago and have yet to give it a proper spin. Will resolve that forthwith ! It's nice when you come across those CBS/Realm albums for half-way sensible prices. One of my favourites is the Frank Ricotti, which I came across in Mole's 'Collectors' rack for a sensible £20. That was a couple of decades ago though.

Agree that an audiologist check is the way to go, for an initial check of each ear. The ultrasonic treatment would be appropriate if at least one ear was bunged up, which is the suspicion with one of mine. Certainly, the ultrasonic treatment options seem to have come a long way over the last decade or two - using ultrasonic wand with spoon to extract the gunk out (alert to those of sensitive disposition..) Over here the NHS used to cover that sort of treatment but these days it tends to be a private option. Fortunately there seem to be lots of specialist clinics offering the service.

Wax removal by a specialist with one of those ultrasonic gizmos would be worth trying, IMO.

They seemed to lose interest in jazz quite a few years ago after putting out a motherlode on CD in the 2000s (most now sold out). Recent releases seem to be SACD, MOR and soul. I guess there is no money in it. Quality of their CDs is superb though.

Interesting Sunday afternoon exercise comparing two versions of the Miles Davis 'Miles' LP on Prestige - the first full session on that label with Coltrane. Esquire pressing - nice and crisp, Paul Chambers and Philly Jo Jones more prominent. US Bergenfield issue (2nd press) - still good but seems a bit 'muddier' and Chambers/Philly Jo not quite so distinct. Verdict - the Esquire has the edge I think. Lancia rustbuckets ! Reminds me of a 70s Italian pressing of Miles' 'Sorcerer' I bought back then, at a time when it was difficult to get hold of in the UK. Very crackly but nice sonics in terms of overall sound. Pat Martino 'East!' (Prestige, purple label). Kindly signed on the front for me by Pat.

Just been notified that it is shipping next week for those who have ordered. Looks like we will 'qualify' for the bonus Garrick poster as well. -
The footage is from the BBC show to celebrate Duke's 70th. I've got the feeling that the recording per the LP was done separately at Lansdowne. Same music, featured artists and band though. Don't forget 'Movement' and 'High Spirits' as well. Very rare LPs, put out on CD by Dutton Vocalion.

Vertigo, orig. Swirl.

Personally, I'll be more than happy to stick with the CD. The sound on the CD box set is quite acceptable.

and me. About £15 I think.

I have a promo cassette of this one. Never played it ! CD4 of this brilliant box. £10 back in the day, at FOPP.

Harpsichords! Favorite Players, Recordings, Styles . . .

Michael Garrick featured his (home made) harpsichord on such Argo albums as 'Troppo' and 'Home Stretch Blues'. To great effect IMO - rare use of harpsichord in jazz. Woops - didn't realise this was a 'classical' thread. -

That very positive comment review by Colin Harper in the 'theafterword' link sounds very promising indeed ! Simon Spillet's comment is also priceless ! It is possibly right up their street. They did stock the pricey 'Omniverse Sun Ra' so I guess there is hope. Roll on shipment day ! Interesting. I've heard that these items in the auction are duplicates from the BBC Music Library, which are no longer required. 'Trio' will fetch a high price I suspect. Incidentally, RMJ did a great job on the booklet essay he did for the Mike Taylor LP he put out some years ago. Almost a small book in itself. -
'Elmo Hope Memorial Album' (Prestige, test pressing) Bergenfield NJ sleeve, 1955 trio recordings. I'd forgotten that I had this one - bargain at £4 !
-
The 'Anchor' Impulses were about £2.99 at time of issue I think. Recall splurging my Summer job money savings on a bundle of them (Abstract Truth, Mingus Mingus..etc.). Still got them.

Cedar Walton 'Spectrum' (Prestige, stereo, blue label)
-
Art Farmer/Gigi Gryce - 'Music For That Wild Party' (Esquire) Trounces Prestige !
-
'Miles - His New Quintet' (Esquire) Those 1975/76 UK Impulse releases were good. Put out through 'Anchor Records' I think - I bought a number of them at the time. Although the vinyl was UK, the sleeves were imported from the US.

I find that these LT issues can sound very good indeed, particularly the US pressings. For this reason I have held off buying the 'Infinity' Tone Poet. I think I have most of these LT issues but not 'Step Lightly'.

I think that's my impromptu set of wickets on the right !

No probs. I can confirm that side 2 is pretty nice. Not as 'stately' as the suite in side 1 but classy stuff.

My sentiments too. Based on other publications I have from RMJ this will no doubt be excellent. Just one limited run I think. I eat my previous words ! -
Side 2 has 5 tracks in a sort of 'third stream' style. Interesting to see that now 98 year old Tony Kinsey is on this LP, on percussion.

Really like this one.
