  1. Those Blue Note Petersons were a very good sequence of releases.
  2. I've always thought it was 'bow-ga-lew' but I may be wrong ! Nice reissue of Gerry's CBS albums put out by Henri Renaud of French CBS.
  3. 'Alligator Bogaloo' indeed it is on the Liberty. I think it has been sampled but for sure it appears on one of those French Blue Note 'club' CD sets put out by 'DJ Booster' (whoever he is). I have a framed photo of cornetist Melvin Lastie supplied by Mosaic, from that very session. Tons of cigarette smoke !
  4. Looks like it. Interestingly though the RSD 'Reflections' will be put out by Decca and with new notes by Tony Higgins.
  5. Heading for 'Head Smashed In Bufallo Jump' at this rate..
  6. Monty Python 'Live at Drury Lane' picture disk looks tempting..
  7. I've got quite a number of those Barnabys which I bought from the deletions rack at Mole Jazz many years ago. You are correct, the vinyl looks naff but they sound pretty good. I have the Don Ellis and Richard Williams as well as the Mingus with Curson. Hugh Hopper '1984' (Red vinyl reissue)
  8. Didn't do the 33s but I have a set of the 45s. Have a good mono orig of 'Search' so happy to stick with that.
  9. Harold Land Quintet 'The Peacemaker' (Cadet/Third Man) Nicely presented reissue and sounding pretty good. Certainly beats those All-Platinum paper cover thin vinyl reissues of this which were (very) occasionally seen in the racks back in the day. I even quite like the Donald Bailey harmonica on side 1, track 2. And still insanely high priced !
  10. I recall that Lol did one of his final UK tours, mainly Up North, out of a skip. Would have loved to have seen that. His solo recital in the Barbican conservatory back in 2005 was great.
  11. Those CBS CD reissues were back in the 1990s I think - definitely overdue another reissue. I have 'Ichnos' on vinyl and really need to dig it out again. In terms of other current releases - I see that there is a new Mike/Kate Westbrook release coming up. I've pre-ordered, should be good. Amancio d'Silva's 'Reflections' is also coming up on LP as part of RSD.
  12. Last day of the sale price according to the Mosaic email just received.
  13. Billy Higgins 'Once More' (Red Records) An absolute belter !
  14. Chris McGregor Septet 'Up To Earth' (Stamford Audio)
  15. What a great series that 'Verve Elite Editions' was. So many new discoveries- not rehashes of stuff you already know.
  16. It was at Ronnie Scotts. Back in the 80s I used to try to catch at least one night of Cedar's regular annual appearances. Initially it was 'Eastern Rebellion' (Ralph Moore took over from Berg when he joined Miles) then the trio with Higgins and Williams. Back circa 1980, Scotts seemed like Billy's second home as he also appeared with George Coleman. Good times ! I'd never heard or seen these Red Records CDs before, then this afternoon spotted both of them second hand at a good price.
  17. Indeed it is - apart from some sibilance on track 1, presumably a deficiency in the recording. Also picked up Higgins' 'Once More', also on Red Records. Cedar Walton and Bob Berg on both disks. Saw Higgins, Walton and Berg around 1980 so this is a nice blast from the past. Whereas on the Red Records CDs Tony Dumas is on bass, at the gigs it was David Williams on bass under Cedar's 'Eastern Rebellion' name.
  18. Billy Higgins 'Soweto' (Red Records)
  19. I remember seeing photos of Mingus at the event in Jazz Journal I think. Very sad. Is that Cecil Taylor sat with Mary Lou Williams on the footage?
  20. Azimuth 'Azimuth' (ECM) Nice to see that Norma Winstone will be playing the Swanage Jazz Festival again this Summer !
  21. Interesting, wasn't aware of that. Have the Riverside in an orig DG mono copy so will likely 'pass' if a Tone Poet comes to pass. As it is a well recorded and in demand album, it will quite probably happen.
  22. Isn't that one on Riverside though?
  23. A nice guy. I got to meet him in 1999, bought one of his large format books and he signed it for me. It's hiding inside my bookcase so this is a good prompt to dig it out.
  24. I've still got a bundle of the 'watch offer' OBIs but never got a watch !
  25. I'm 'in' for this one - it will replace my trusty old brown bag 70s twofer.
