  1. Sorry to hear this. Always liked his recordings with Fathead Newman - RIP.
  2. That Miles Davis box set was put out by Henri Renaud at French CBS. He put out some really fine stuff at the time and this set is not too difficult to find over here 2nd hand. The front of the box is some sort of flock felt material. I've heard it referred to as the 'Indian restaurant flock wallpaper' box set, which is a pretty accurate description. The 3LPs in the box are a pretty excellent and succinct summary of Miles at Columbia. One LP of the 50s band, one of Miles/Gil and the third with the transitional and Bitches Brew lineups. A classic box set. That single LP 'Greatest Hits' also came out on UK CBS. One of the first Miles LPs I ever bought.
  3. Yep - bonus 45rpm EP 'Great Expectations'/'Little Blue Frog'.
  4. 'The Essential Miles Davis' (French CBS 3LP set)
  5. Tony Williams 'Ego' (Polydor)
  6. Dave Pike 'Bossa Nova Carnival' (UK Esquire, mono) Some nice Clark Terry and Kenny Burrell on this one..
  7. Hope to catch them (the Big band) in Exeter next Friday. Lots more West Country options coming up after that. I'm tempted to make the drive down to Falmouth on Monday. We'll have to see..
  8. Fair 'nough !
  9. Mc-Lock-lin Depends which side of the border you are on I guess (Scottish, not Watford Gap ). I always thought it was the latter.
  10. Stan Getz/Francy Boland - 'Change of Scenes' (UK Verve)
  11. The Bill Evans Complete Verve is showing at around £18 ( ) right now on Amazon UK but they seem to be 'temporarily out of stock'.
  12. The short btime I was there in '99 I remember seeing Jackie McLean and Cecil Taylor there. Wilson's Big Band in town as well. A very active and stimulating scene !
  13. I had been hoping to hell all day that we would not hear this news. RIP, a considerable loss to jazz.
  14. Isoardi's 'The Dark Tree' mentions it as having been recorded late 1987 on return from Germany. Hence side A track 2 'Bavarian Mist', I guess. 'Quagmire Manor' was apparently Sessions' nickname for the second of the UGMAA houses, apparently.
  15. Once that sucker impregnates itself in your brain it will never let go..
  16. This set sounds as though it will be an absolute 'blinder' - thanks for the update ! I suspect that this one will be in the grand Mosaic tradition of Commodore, Master Jazz Piano etc.
  17. I think I saw that Woody Herman Band and had not realised that Bob Belden was in the lineup. My wishes for him and hoping for the best. What tragic news.
  18. Never even heard of it !
  19. RIP and many thanks Mr Lundvall for a great legacy of stewardship at CBS and Blue Note. So much great music nurtured and released thanks to him. A very sad day for jazz, for sure. Wasn't there a thread a short while ago about an auction of his art collection?
  20. I would have gone for it !
  21. To me - looks a dead ringer for Hercule Poirot !
  22. The Tanglewood performance on that one is really nice, if you don't already have it.
  23. Jane Getz George Braith RR Kirk
