RIP and many thanks Mr Lundvall for a great legacy of stewardship at CBS and Blue Note. So much great music nurtured and released thanks to him. A very sad day for jazz, for sure. Wasn't there a thread a short while ago about an auction of his art collection?

80s/90s Blue Note sort of hit a peak with this one and the Bobby Watson Horizons, in my opinion...

16rpm - would mean that you can play those hen's teeth "Captain Slow" Prestiges e.g. Miles Davis '& the Modern Jazz Giants'.

Excellent record. With some excellent Kenny Wheeler. True - I was probably even more impressed with Thomas Heberer's solo work on this album. Wheeler's 'Ana' is featured on side 1 of course.

Great set - this is one of those that disappeared literally overnight as a result of that imfamous manufacturing balls-up by Capitol. Recommended !

Worth a spin under a record cleaning machine, if available. I reckon lots of copies might have pressing detrius on them - one of the tracks on mine clicked until I ran it under the machine, even though visually it was flawless. Here's hoping that Dutton Vocalion put out a few more of the Lansdownes on vinyl. The Guy Warrens would be nice ! Not sure I would totally agree with you on 'Integration' ( ) but I agree it's also a really, really nice session that is well worthy of reissue on vinyl by Vocalion (and another CD issue would be good). The fact that 'Hum Dono' has Harriott on it gives it that 'historic/landmark' edge, I guess.

I was there in Late Nov/early Dec last year and my recollections were that it was blustery and quite changeable. When the weather was good the beaches in and around Aukland were very pleasant. At least one half decent vinyl shop downtown too..

Yep, that's on my list too..

From my experience, Aukland is by far the most expensive place to visit in NZ, although perhaps Queenstown in the South Island runs it close. Comparable to London for eating out etc. from what I could see but not sure about hotel rates. Sydney must be off the scale !

Yes, the price is going the right way. We're now getting £14.88 + £2.80 delivery from an Amazon trader. At this rate I may actually buy! £11.46 "used - like new" and I've finally taken the plunge! Alleluyah ! Nice one ! I would say that this book and the Joe Harriott bio are in a class of their own (along with Ian Carr's 'Music Outside') as far as books about British Modern Jazz are concerned.

Tempting - even though I have this one on vinyl.
