  1. I can see me having to destroy some credit cards before setting foot in this place..
  2. I'll be sure to have an I-Pad loaded up with it when I hit town !
  3. RIP - saw him not long ago on the TV playing 'Jumping Jack Flash', Old Grey Whistle Test footage I think. Although that footage was from quite a long time ago, this news still comes as quite a shock.
  4. Many thanks !
  5. Thanks - sounds like a plan. I'll be a bit jet-lagged but raring to go (and probably spent up by the end of Day 1 ). Could then do a return visit with kinuta a day or two later.
  6. Thanks kinuta ! That's a very good idea re: LP postage as the thought of carting Japanese vinyl with me during the onwards trip (through hot conditions) is not an attractive proposition.
  7. That shop looks absolutely amazing. That's everything that a jazz store should be. Better than anything we ever had in this country. Look at the big wedge of LPs under Art Farmer's name !
  8. 'Lively' - spot-on description !
  9. My scheduled dates for Tokyo are Oct 19th to 23rd - damn, yet again I am one week too early. Would have really liked to have seen the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra and been able to say 'hello'. Ah well.... Thanks ! Maybe we can convene a board-member Disk Union store Official Expedition? i'll be making my annual trek in (probably later) october as well... Excellent ! I've only ever been once before and that was on a 1-hour stopover, over 20 years ago. I've been itching to get back ever since ! Luggage allowance is going to completely mess me up re: record buying..
  10. Happy Birthday !
  11. I have the same pressing John. Sounds extremely good !
  12. Thanks John - appreciated !
  13. Looks like I'll be spending a few days in Tokyo in October en-route to Oz and will of course seek to make a very rapid bee-line straight to Disk Union . Any recommendations? - will probably be staying in the Shinjuku area.
  14. Randy Savage Hulk Hogan Giant Haystacks
  15. One of the rare times I've heard the main news broadcast actually spend more than a couple of seconds to confirm the artist's significance in jazz and even to play a snippet of one of the duets with Ornette.
  16. Perry Robinson Tom Robinson Mrs Robinson
  17. Yeah, nice one. Have enjoyed that one ever since it came out. That and the Don Cherry.
  18. Congrats ! BNBB certainly seems like ancient history now.
  19. Ahmad Jamal Trio Argo Sessions, CD1.
  20. 10 bucks... Jeez !
  21. Sorry to hear this and very unexpected. I think I just saw him the once - many years ago at Montreal along with Marc Johnson's Bass Desires, as part of a short series of concerts featuring Haden. A fine concert - RIP.
  22. I have pretty well all the LPs by Akiyoshi/Tabakin but had forgotten just how good the music/arrangements were - and it is good to have it all in the digital format. Superb craftsmanship went into those arrangements - and the various bands are up to it. Sound on the Tony Williams seems to be better than on the individual CDs as well, so you can't go wrong with that set either.
  23. Now there's optimism for you !
  24. Greg Abate must be gearing up for his annual shoot-em-up with Alan Barnes at Swanage this weekend. I'm unlikely to make it down there this weekend, unfortunately, too much work to do.
  25. A good one. I'm already ranking it up there with Thad & Mel in their 'modern' big-band sets. also, Just noticed that Andrew Hill 'Solo' is now in Last Chance...
