  1. All the best !
  2. Bank Holiday = Washout
  3. To be honest, I'm amazed that the 'Mole' building and its sign has lasted as long as it has. To my mind the area started to noticeably change and become less hostile around 10 years ago, when I stayed at that Ibis hotel towards the back of the station. Wouldn't have even contemplated such a thing in the 1980s. In fact, back then I used to view the Shaw Theatre as something of a 'frontier' on the way to Mole. Once you reached the environs KC station getting propositioned was a regularity, even as a student - and it wasn't to ask what Miles/Coltrane LPs you'd bought..
  4. 10 Rillington Place - an amazing performance. Sad news, a major icon and a fine gent by all accounts. RIP.
  5. 'The New Don Ellis band Goes Underground' (Columbia)
  6. Yes, there used to be a huge transition from Euston/Bloomsbury to Kings Cross. East of the Shaw Theatre was, to me, a sort of frontier into the twighlight zone.. I see that interview mentions the builders supplies shop, which I think was situated not too far from the relocated Mole place. Remember seeing a framed 'Kind of Blue' 6-eye LP for sale in the window of that place (a bit of a diversion from selling tins of Artex..).
  7. Spud Murphy (again) O'Reilly Basil
  8. Same here, John. Maybe Stevens was involved with the packing dept. or the auctions?
  9. Happy Birthday to Mr Clark Terry !
  10. Various (Marty Paich Octet, Jack Sheldon) 'West Coast Scene' (UK Vogue 2LP) 70s reissue. Mole Jazz sticker in situ...
  11. Still can't find my King pressing so maybe it has vapourised ! I know I have one because it was purchased from a store in Switzerland.
  12. Yikes what a "classy" cover haha... Nice album - where else can you hear Sam Rivers with Mongo Santamaria ! Nat Adderley 'Sayin' Somethin'' (UK Atlantic mono - Polydor pressing) Side 1 a bit ropey with Tony Hatch covers etc. but side 2 kicks ass..
  13. Yeah, that's what I thought too. Interesting to read that John Stevens was on the staff at one time. I wonder when that would have been?
  14. Milt Jackson 'That's The Way It Is' (UK Impulse stereo, factory sample)
  15. JC Hogan JC Penney Penny Dreadful
  16. Hilton Ruiz 'Strut' (RCA Novus)
  17. No probs chaps - glad you enjoyed it.
  18. Some interesting recollections here - http://www.kingscross.co.uk/KXV-2007-242-01
  19. Home - My copy turns out to be NY USA stereo with the 'ear', no deep groove. I'm playing 'Love and Hate' at the moment. Just a few soft crackles towards the beginning and end of this track but nothing significant. The sonics on this pressing sound pretty nice on the whole. I'll see if I can find/dig out my King pressing later on. Have a 'Music Matters' 45rpm copy to check against as well.
  20. Don't recall such an issue on my copy (which is a mono NY USA with DG on one side) but I'll see if I can find it this weekend and check. I also have a King pressing which I'm pretty sure is super-silent.
  21. I hate that cover. The CD mentions that there is a restaurant (somewhere in Brazil) which has copies of it plastered all over the walls. Not the place to eat then !
  22. Was that at Cheltenham about 5-6 years ago? If so I caught that gig - had forgotten that Kenny was in the lineup. That's right. Another occasion where we've sat in the same room oblivious! Amazing ! Even more amazing was the fact that I'd forgot Kenny was in that concert..
  23. I'm still amazed that the Donaldson set is still for sale, considering that this was one of the ones that went OOP very quickly.
  24. Was that at Cheltenham about 5-6 years ago? If so I caught that gig - had forgotten that Kenny was in the lineup. First time I heard him on record, thinking about it, was on Anthony Braxton's 'NY Fall 1974'. Not his most typical playing.
