Not the 'Wally' who carved his name in the deadwax of the Blue Note 'Conn' series vinyl? That guy gets everywhere ! 70s Pablo vinyl? Some of them can sound a bit 'cut off' at the high end. Not all though - the original 'Pablo Live' series vinyl can often be far superior to the (later) CD issues.

I don't get it, except for the fact that both spellings might be pronounced the same way? Scheveningen: Dutch pronunciation = sxevənɪgən or Sgeveningen. Every time I try to say it I end up splattering people's face with spittle ! I last went to this festival in 2005 (or was it 2006?). There's significantly more 'jazz' here than at Cheltenham with this lineup but I have to say that compared with 2005 it looks a bit diluted. General trend I guess. The highlight for me of that particular year was Yusef Lateef with the Belmondo Brothers, plus seeing James Moody with a Slide Hampton-led Gillespie Reunnion Big band. The Rotterdam venue is on a huge scale, although the cowd rushes between stages can be a bit hair-raising (especially when they are emptying out the stages after popular acts).

Sorry to hear this. Hadn't heard of her for years but I remember that she did lots of festival appearances in Europe back in the 70s and 80s (The Nice Festival in particular springs to mind).
