  1. 2 copies in a year. A veritable avalanche !
  2. Those Esquire EPs are pretty neat John - I have a couple of them (a couple of the McLean's and a Coltrane). Other than the MJQs, they can be pretty rare !
  3. Horace Silver 'The Jody Grind' (BN Liberty mono gatefold)
  4. There's speculation on the 'Jazz Collector' site that that one may potentially be of dubious pedigree. Hard to tell !
  5. "You work 108 hours more than the annual average for United Kingdom. This is 37 hours more than the OECD average." Slavery !
  6. Everything ever said by Lloyd Grossman
  7. More like communal whipping sessions in the nordic sauna with bunches of birch !
  8. No Lex for you?!? Nah. Beyond my pay grade.
  9. Now spinning 'Jutta Hipp With Zoot Sims' (Toshiba BN)
  10. Not the 'Wally' who carved his name in the deadwax of the Blue Note 'Conn' series vinyl? That guy gets everywhere ! 70s Pablo vinyl? Some of them can sound a bit 'cut off' at the high end. Not all though - the original 'Pablo Live' series vinyl can often be far superior to the (later) CD issues.
  11. I don't get it, except for the fact that both spellings might be pronounced the same way? Scheveningen: Dutch pronunciation = sxevənɪgən or Sgeveningen. Every time I try to say it I end up splattering people's face with spittle ! I last went to this festival in 2005 (or was it 2006?). There's significantly more 'jazz' here than at Cheltenham with this lineup but I have to say that compared with 2005 it looks a bit diluted. General trend I guess. The highlight for me of that particular year was Yusef Lateef with the Belmondo Brothers, plus seeing James Moody with a Slide Hampton-led Gillespie Reunnion Big band. The Rotterdam venue is on a huge scale, although the cowd rushes between stages can be a bit hair-raising (especially when they are emptying out the stages after popular acts).
  12. 28C when I got in the car on the way back from the SE today.
  13. Sorry to hear this. Hadn't heard of her for years but I remember that she did lots of festival appearances in Europe back in the 70s and 80s (The Nice Festival in particular springs to mind).
  14. Garvin Bushell Garry Bushell Neanderthal Man
  15. First ones that really caught my ear were 'Gerry Mulligan Meets The Sax Giants Vol 2' on UK Verve reissue LP, Buddy Rich's 'Mercy Mercy Mercy' (UK Liberty) and CBBB 'More Smiles' (MPS BASF). Other than that, I was digging 'Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep'
  16. The days of buying everything direct from North America beckon again, thanks to these inflationary chumps. Time for Our Price to open up again with everything at £15 and up
  17. A great shame after the incredible fight he has put up over the past few months. Rest in peace Robin - RIP. Robin Gibb and Donna Summer within the space of a week..
  18. Guy Burgess Kim Philby The 'Fifth Man'
  19. The Brotherhood of Breath Prince Hal Hotspur Brave Sir Robin Sir Crapalot Knights Who Say 'Nigg'
  20. Braveheart Lord Flasheart 'Flash'
