  2. CD3 of the Herman Capitol Box. First time I have had a really good listen to this stuff and it is excellent !
  3. Closely followed by Horace Silver's Blue Note LPs !
  4. Maybe Thiele did a deal with SABA to record the Kuhns but with SABA ultimately holding the rights? (just checked the LP and there doesn't seem to be anything in there to confirm any arrangement).
  5. Continuing the 'House' theme..
  6. Why does that LP remind me of this?
  7. Jim Buffington Buffy Sainte-Marie Colonel Buffy Frobisher The Bish Baldrick 'Bob'
  8. You just need to get hold of a pic of Jaki Byard and Joe Farrell and stick on one of those Prestige CDs I see there's one with Joe Farrell on his flute.
  9. Great news re: the daughter and my hearty congratulations to you and family !

  13. Happy Birthday Mr Conn !!
  14. Oh damn - more bad news to wake up to. Fabulous musician with a great ear. I will try to spin 'Gyroscope' later today - that one is fantastic. Not to mention the 'Experiments With Pops'. Didn't see him anywhere near enough - Ronnie Scotts back in the early 80s would be the last time I think. RIP Mr Beck. Incidentally, Brownie, I've always thought that Beck was much more appreciated in France than here in the UK. From the 1970s onwards he seemed to work much more over there than he did here. Very low-profile.
  15. Totally agree. Whilst not in the top flight of Jazz Messengers groups or recordings, this one came out in the middle of a very fallow period for modern jazz in general and hard bop in particular. It initiated more than a little tapping of feet 'back in the day'. The UK LP issue came out on Pye and wasn't the greatest, sonically (a bit lacking in depth and with Dennis Irwin's bass on the boomy side). Hope that the CD sound does it justice !
  16. All the best !
  17. Have a good one !
  18. Happy Birthday Porcy !
  19. Bill Evans/Jim Hall 'Intermodulation' (UK Verve, stereo)
  20. Could have been worse I guess ie. making use of one of Marcel Duchamp's urinals..
