  1. Don't play it too loud - I hear that Sarko is just banning Anglo-Saxon jazz..
  2. Max Jaffa Kit Downes Richard Tee
  3. This is the time of year that the Duke Pearson Mosaic Select (Xmas album) gets a heavy spin.
  4. Happy Birthday GOM !
  5. To be honest, I'm amazed that this loophole for the exchequer wasn't closed earlier, especially as it was badly affecting 'brick and mortar' stores. Also suspect that there is more to come along these lines, if the big tax take from the 'City' drops permanently over the next few years due to 'Euro issues'. After the party......... finally comes the bill. Now - If only they would "bazooka" the Channel Islands as off shore tax havens for all those who, without exception, don't need it - now that would be a result !
  6. In the annals of badly tuned pianos that one is right up there with Don Schlitten's Prestige piano of circa 1968 !
  7. Maybe it's me but I can't see a skull-like thing on that enhanced photo. I was no good with those 'Magic Eye' books either.
  8. That 3LP 'Great Concert of Eric Dolphy' was my first copy of these recordings, on the Prestige green label vinyl. Still have it !
  9. Mr Reverb Sonic The Hedgehog Pokemon
  10. That's a deal and a half !
  11. Tel Sid Hissing Sid Captain Beaky
  12. Now there's a fine player - sadly no longer with us. Saw him on one occasion (about 3 decades ago) with Humph (Kathy Stobart was on baritone, Mike Pyne on piano and Kenny Baldock on bass I think). Didn't he get tagged as a 'dirty bopper' by the Fygges?
  13. Rolf & Joachim Kuhn 'Impressions of New York' (Impulse black/white label promo, mono)
  14. Arsenio Hall Henry Hall Lord Reith
  15. I did have broadband speed problems with BT but to their credit they sent a technician out, modified the terminations at my place and tweeked the settings at the exchange. Very happy with that service and since then there have been no problems.
  16. I'm sure she's got all 3 boxes of the Commodore set.
  17. Horace Silver Quintet 'Six Pieces Of Silver' (BN 47W63rd/NY USA mono deep groove)
  18. Geoff Mulgan Gerry Mulligan Mungo Jerry Mungo Mary Midge
  19. Rex Hotel - brings back fond memories (apart from the beer price, that is !) Tonight - an excellent Blue Note tribute band - 'The Sound of Blue Note', at my local club. Andy Urquart (trumpet), Torontonian ex-pat Terry Quinney on tenor, Guy Garner (piano), Pete Maxfield (bass) and Tony Mann (drums). Most commendably, they played some pretty off-piste stuff, including the likes of Tommy Turrentine 'Midnight Mambo', Kenny Dorham 'Brown Town' and Elmo Hope 'De Dah'. Thoroughly enjoyable and fine playing all round.
  20. Can't speak highly enough of Mr Tanno - his service has been superb in the past. It's sad to hear that his store is closing - I hope things go well with his future plans.
  21. I'd forgotten about that ! No doubt it was to be a critical enabler component of that "NHS IT" catastrophic ****-up. That guy certainly did his homework with regards to how to spin his way through being in office and bamboozled half of the country, in the process. Not that any of them are much different..
  22. This is a magnificent box set and I am always stunned as to how good the sound is on the CDs - Fantasy did a very good job. Totally agree with the comment re: 'the whole is better than the sum of the parts'. Dolphy was a genius, for sure.
