Yes - there are tracks from very interesting sessions like the Lonnie Levister 'Manhattan Monodrama' and the material by John LaPorta that are included on the 'Debut Story' 4CD and which don't feature on the big Mingus box. Good booklet too !

Yes, they are separate and totally unrelated sessions. The Johnny Scott Orchestra session is a more 'commercial' venture. Stdio 2 was an imprint aimed at the mainstream/hi-fi buff/Jason King crowd.

Nice to see Johnny Scott 'London Swings' amongst the titles (included with the Tubbs/Gonsalves). That one was a mid-price Studio 2 LP I think, with the Johnny Scott Orchestra playing London-ish themes. One to blast out of your car speakers as you head to the Olympics.

I quite like them. Sounds fishy but they are claiming that it is fully authorised. I was thinking it might have been one of those sellers peddling LP dub CD-Rs. Same thing that was going on with 'Hum Dono' and 'Cosmic Eye Dream Sequence'. Don't think I've ever seen any of those '77 Records' issues on CD. I have a few of them on LP test pressings, more the trad stuff (bought from Mole, of all places) but sadly not one of the 'Have You Heard'.

Also the host on the 1st series of 'Jazz 625' and frequently on TV back in the day as host of the 'My Music' quiz show - which dinosaurs on here remember that? His heart was certainly in the right place as far as jazz is concerned. Really impressed with these Vocalion reissues. Too bad they didn't also release the 3rd Dick Morrissey of the triumvirate - 'Have You Heard?' on Dobell's '77 Records'. Maybe 'Hum Dono' will be on the horizon next?

Great news - I'll be picking up most of them. This is an A1 release schedule for Vocalion after just a few dribs and drabs over the past year. I have a few of them (all the Dankworths, the Skidmore, Cameron 'Cover Lover', quite a rarity on LP) but it will be nice to have them on CD. Totally psyched up over the Dick Morrisseys and the Gonsalves/Hayes ! Dankworth 'Full Circle' and 'Lifeline' are really good early 70s albums long overdue for reissue. 'Zodiac Variations' has US guest appearances from Clark Terry etc. The Steve Race's are a couple of odd titles - things like 'Theme From Maigret' and 'Z Cars' on them. Interest from 1950s/60s TV historians?

Fascinating. Presumably the photo in picture 3 is of the basement area where Alice Coltrane had her recording studio? I hope that they get the funding and support to make this place the historical attraction that it deserves to be.

Earlier today - Art Pepper Mosaic Select, CD2. Very high sustained standard on this set. Listening to the interaction between Pepper and Russ Freeman is a joy.

Miles Davis 'Bitches Brew' (Dutch orange label CBS orig., stereo). LP1 If you want a Bitches Brew with laminated Mati Klarwein art, this is the one to get ! My 5th vinyl copy of this one.
