  1. Damn, sorry to hear this. A fine player and a great all-round entertainer. Glad I got chance to see him play, appreciate his quick wit and also hear his reminiscences of the LA 'scene'. RIP and thanks, Mr Sheldon. By way of immediate tribute, this one is going on deck -

  9. Indeed ! Wish I could be there (although I would probably bankrupt myself).
  10. Interesting - didn't realise Dobells were selling mail-order label LPs ! Now spinning:- Hank Mobley 'A Caddy For Daddy' (BN NY USA, stereo)
  11. Same here. Back then I would have thought it was a 'tea caddy'. Or someone who carries your golf clubs? Playing my vinyl copy now (Blue Note 4230). Is this one of the Mobleys where the tracks are re-arranged on the CD? I have "A Caddy for Daddy", "The Morning After", "Venus Di Mildew", "Ace Deuce Trey" and "3rd Time Around". That is the track order also on my BN NY USA stereo copy of the LP. My 1990 CD copy has the same track order too.

  14. Sadly, just another over-indulged and overhyped 'muso' from Camden Town still partying like it is 2007. Pete Docherty is another one..
  15. CDs 1-3 and hopefully right through to 8 today. This box gets dissed in some quarters but for the dedicated Evans fan it is indespensible I think. Some stunningly beautiful music on this set !
  16. The Amazon UK pre-release price that I took advantage of was pretty good (about £35 I think).
  17. That July 1959 appearance by Morgan in Toronto was the visit on which he hooked up with Wayne Shorter at the Toronto CNE Grounds (Shorter was with Maynard Ferguson), I believe, and persuaded him to join The Messengers. I don't think Hank was up to making the trip.

  19. Sorry to hear this - RIP.

  21. Karl Berger & Co. 'Tune In' (Milestone, yellow label)
  22. Rahsaan Roland Kirk's vinyl collection would have been interesting. I read that he was an enthusiastic purchaser and even recruited Joe Texidor (from the checkout) in Sam Goody's !
