  1. vinyl?! I wish ! Just the regular Mosaic but it was in HMV, of all places. Most of them were priced at $47 and this one for some reason was £26
  2. Sorry it's late but - hope it was a Very Happy Birthday !
  3. Damn - why did I only see this after getting back from London.
  4. That's the early 70s (approx 1973) second pressing ! Agreed, the sound of those is good.
  5. Does it grab the duvet and pull it off you half way through the night, leaving your butt exposed to the cold?
  6. Johnny Mercer Mosaic Select - new for £26
  7. Sounds right up my street !
  8. John Marshall Ian Carr Jeff Clyne
  9. Duke Ellington 36-40 Variety, Vocalion and Okeh Small Groups, CD1 Classic recordings, for sure.
  10. Hi Daniel - The 70s Philips reissue of '100% Proof' on LP should sound fine. I've got one track from that on a Philips compilation and the stereo is very acceptable. Both '100% Proof' and 'Mexican Green' are absolutely essential Tubby Hayes sessions to get. 'Mexican Green' in particular is a beauty and very scarce on original vinyl. The numbers I've heard are only 500-600 copies pressed (although I suspect it might be a bit higher than that). Another option might be to see if Hiroshi can track down any of the Japanese Fontana issues (not sure if they used the stereo masters on these). Another big band album featuring Tubbs which is worth hearing is Laurie Johnson's 'Synthesis' on UK Columbia. That one also has Joe Harriott on it. Never reissued on CD to my knowledge. A very interesting 'third stream' project.
  11. Happy Birthday Flurin - have a great one with lots of good music I hope !
  12. Inter-galactic spaceways shut until NATS & Eurocontrol say so ! Rocket No. 9 stuck on the tarmac etc. etc.
  13. I've heard reports that the Arkestra - under direction of Marshall Allen - is currently stranded in London due to the volcanic activity and flight restrictions. They did an extra night at Cafe Oto in East London this weekend, I believe. Total kudos to Marshall Allen for his dedication in keeping the show on the road Echos maybe of their early 60s Montreal tour and getting stranded up there too?
  14. I'm very fond of those twofers - every one of them 'honourary Mosaics' IMO. Even though I have the music on the McLean Mosaic vinyl, I wouldn't like to part with the twofer. Not least because of some excellent sleeve notes (similarly the Hill, Rivers, Paul Chambers, Gil Evans, Wes etc.)
  15. Unbelievable clear views this afternoon - some of the best visual conditions I've ever encountered here (from around 1000ft asl). There was actually a glider tug aircraft in the air servicing a load of gliders. Must have got special permission !
  16. Yes - Some incredible skies. I plan on checking out a panoramic high SW UK vantage point this afternoon to savour the plane-less skies. Enjoy it while it lasts ! And tonight would be a good one to burn a Wicker Man funeral pyre..

  20. Gifthourse in mouth etc., great stuff. Congrats and enjoy !
  21. Glorious evening out here tonight. And no annoying low flying aircraft !
  22. Broadcast on Channel 4
  23. Just dug out his Pathe Marconi 10" with Orchestra playing Persiany arrangements ! Yesterday: Charlie Christian 'Immortal' (Esoteric 10") Mintons session with Monk and Joe Guy. 'Charlie Christian/Dizzy Gillespie' (Esoteric 10")
  24. 'Father Ted' was funnier ! (they are often shown back to back here).
  25. Eddie Edwards Gareth Southgate Jamaican Bobsleigh Team
