  1. Mr Bean Blackadder Baldrick
  2. Columbia Small Groups CD8. On the basis of CDs 4-8 this really is a fabulous mainstream set. Loved all of it so far (especially the Ben Webster on disk 8). Recommended !
  3. You'll love it !
  4. Horizontal rain back with a vengeance today ! Glad I'm not on the coast.. My house was re-glazed last week. Fortunately they just finished before all this started !
  5. Columbia Small Group Sessions, CD 7. The Herb Ellis material.
  6. Nice way to start the day !
  7. Northway Books are due to publish this gem in a second edition early in the New Year. I believe that they are taking pre-orders direct (see site). An absolutely essential guide to British Jazz of the late 60s/early 70s written by Ian Carr. Incredible that it is being reprinted ! Plus - they have a biography of Hank Mobley by Derek Ansell forthcoming.
  8. Some of my faves this year: Oliver Nelson - 'Argo/Verve/Impulse' Set (Mosaic) Charles Tolliver - 'With Love' (Blue Note/Mosaic) Mike Taylor Quartet - 'Pendulum' (Sunbeam) and 'Mike Taylor Remembered' (Trunk) Miles Davis - 'Complete On The Corner Sessions' (CBS/Sony) 'Introducing Kenny Cox and the Contemporary Jazz Quintet' (BN) Andrew Hill - 'Change' (BN) and Piano Solo Mosaic Select set Stanley Turrentine - 'A Bluish Bag' (BN) Tubby Hayes - 'The Little Giant' (Proper)
  9. Some heavy (quite dreadful) rain storms over here, interspersed with sunshine. 5-10C but getting colder again. Last night was the drive from hell. Horizontal rain !
  10. Sounds like the place is in good hands. Long may it continue !
  11. Brian Spring Elke Sommer Ann Summers
  12. Mike Taylor Trio 'Trio' (UK Columbia Lansdowne, stereo) and: Jazz Couriers 'The Last Word' (Japanese Tempo TAP26 facsimile)
  13. There was a scratch on disk 2 which wrecked one track and the box wasn't in the greatest condition. Amazon UK shipped a replacement set within the week, no problems at all with that one. Great service ! Does that mean you're not selling your JRVGs now Yves?
  14. Yeh, it's a great set. So many highlights on it. 'Jazzhattan Suite', 'The Kennedy Dream', 'Peter & The Wolf'. Sound didn't disappoint either (although I would give my back teeth for a vinyl version).
  15. Mike Taylor Quartet 'Pendulum' (UK Columbia Lansdowne mono). Astonishing !
  16. I find that staying out of the ranting in the 'Politics' threads makes this forum a more pleasant place.
  17. That brings back nightmares. Remember seeing it on the TV. He redeemed himself pretty well after that tho'.
  18. That looks like that rapper guy with the big baggy pants. "What's his name"...
  19. Shame he can't last 90 minutes though. Or 45 for that matter. An ability just to pass does not a great player make. Now past his sell-by date I think.
  20. Thanks for sharing ! Nice to know the two places are in good shape and being preserved.
  21. Here he is with those buses... 'Retirement' loomed on landing.
  22. 'Columbia Small Group Swing Sessions 1953-62'. CD6 - the Clark Terry/Coleman Hawkins session which gets quite a bit of stick in the booklet. Have allways liked this session, for all its flaws. Next up: Johnny Smith set.
  23. I saw an original vinyl of this in London a couple of weeks ago for £15 ! Badly scratched though, unfortunately. Sleeve was pretty nice. First one I've ever seen in the shops too.
