Goooooooooooooooooooooooooool
porcy62 replied to Van Basten II's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Good news we qualified bad news so did the Italian plague, it was so close the 1-1 scoreline was the best of both worlds until.... I could take it at personal level... Let me put it this way, my hate for Italians is only at the football level, the same way i enjoy seeing the Canadian National team lose in ice hockey or the US team in basketball. Nothing against the country or their countryman by themselves. Hey, i have some friends who are italians even some members of my family are that way Glad to hear it. I too found canadians nice when I visited the country, definitely more friendly then the bears, but less tasty then salmon -

But what? This is surely a safer and more polite place then any Charles Mingus' ensembles. -

The adulthood involves the fact that you're able to deal with critics and with harsh judgements, mocking, even unpolitness and personal insults. In this forum there had been nasty arguings, people loosing temper and tooked things personally...and tons of public apologizes. Some left, some stayed. One of the plus of Big O is that is a free speech forum, let's face it. If you prefer something more polite and clean like a Gentleman's Club of the XIX century, well, go to SH forum. ...and now you can move the whole thread in the Political Forum, the no men's land of "politically correctness". -
Overall, I think that crude oil should be priced 2 K at barrel, because until then, nobody at the head of the various goverments of the world will have the guts to challenge the interests of oil and car industries and push for a politic of energy saving and clean and renovable energy sources, (that aren't the nuclear or biofuel, another big lobby of interests).

I thought that was required around here. Don't many of my posts reflect that? Nah, great artists write down, editing and cutting come later.

Attention Vinyl Freaks: Bitches Brew in Last Chance
porcy62 replied to Ron S's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Strongly disagree about it, a must have if you like the Electric Miles. Generally speaking I find fascinating all these rehearsals and the cut and paste mixing that bursted the original albums: IASW, BB and JJ. -
Attention Vinyl Freaks: Bitches Brew in Last Chance
porcy62 replied to Ron S's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Thanks for the warning! Anyway my copy is # 1205 -
Thanks for the explanation, I got it and it convinced me. Generally speaking the Classics I have are ok so are the Mosaic, the 45rpm sounds better. IMHO. One of the objection of this series would be that they could reissue at 33rpm with Hoffman mastering. The OJC (Analogue Production, Hoffman/Grey mastering) 33 rpm vinyl I have sound pretty good. Maybe they aren't the "truth" but I think that would satisfy most of the people at half the price.

Who is telling you to buy the 40th copy of Soul Station? Nobody. If you're happy with the copy you now have, so be it. No one has to buy any of these new vinyl reissues. But they are there if someone wants them. They may well be the "best" version available - and on vinyl - and if you don't already have a copy or want a (arguably) superior copy then go for it. On the one hand you rave about the test pressing that you heard, but on the other you dismiss the value/purpose of the entire reissue series. And wtf does any of this have to do with Stephen Biko? Gawd, the melodrama! Sorry for Biko's reference, I was a bit drunk and depressed and as for italians, melodramma is in our DNA, we invented it. Yes, the TP sounds great and I am not obliged to buy and these reissue are an occasion to upgrade or have at least a good sounding BN title on vinyl. Nothing wrong about it. And as Claude has pointed out about digital reissues, the new Hoffman serie is actually the best option for a new good sounding BN, vinyl or cd, since a long time. As you said if you haven't yet an early original or a Mosaic or japanese pressing this is way. Sorry for the ranting, you are right and I am only depressed about what's going on in the world.

Thanks, Chuck! I deeply appreciate it. It's what I wish to hear: music.

True, but thell me one good reason because I should buy the fortieth copy of Soul Station , without any psychiatrist's explanation, though I need a psychiatric help, but for more serious reasons. Let's take Soul Station, AFIK Thruth is out there, as Fox Moulder stated, there are: 1) an original mono pressing 63rd west label 1) a DG of the same pressing 1) NY label mono pressing 1) a stereo original 63rd west pressing 1) a stereo NY label 1) a stereo Liberty label 1) a "Finest jazz, etc..." 1) a Classics mono reissue and probably some King or Toshiba reissues, maybe some bad Pathe... And we are only talking about my beloved vinyl. PLUS several CD: Ron MacMaster, Malcom Addey, RVG, JRVG and SACD, XRCD and maybe some more japanese exotic reissues. I presume, but Claude will know better then me, and I'd love he could add a comprensive list of the digital reissues of Soul Station (no kidding or mocking, I'll appreciate it). Tell me one good reason because I have to buy the latest "Truth". I despise the Pope and Pat Robertson, if I'd buy the new Hoffman remaster I'd see the light? Did you consider how much time would you need to compare all the different reissues?? I mean our opinion would be grounded on self appointed "experts" (and Ron Rambach sure is, no kidding, I love the man) so all my judgement would be based on trust and not on direct experience. And the Test Pressing I had from RR is jaw dropping, no kidding) but... Well, Huh, the bass is more defined there, but the air around the instruments is better here...and the cymbals, wow those cymabals...! I bought a new TT, I like it. Fine. End of the story. Why do I like it? I don't know, it's a matter or taste or I posponed for too much time my check up with the Otorhinolaryngologist? Who knows? Maybe Mikey Fremer wrote a great review on Stereophile and had the TT at price cost and reselled it after a week with a 30% profit. IMO life is too hard: diseases, enviromental issues, people starving, wars...I found all this stuff about the latest reissue total BS and deeply cynical. I am too depressed and cynical to spend time on it and I am typing and wasting time on it just right now. I understood everybody has to carry on, me too, put the bread on the table for the family... As Peter Gabriel said September '77 Port Elizabeth weather fine It was business as usual In police room 619 Oh Biko, Biko, because Biko Oh Biko, Biko, because Biko Yihla Moja, Yihla Moja -The man is dead It was business as usual everywhere, even at my studio and at mr. Hoffman, I just find all these depressing. I am deeply sorry for the rant, apologize if I offended someone.

No news, Wolff posted it a couple of years ago, Chuck agreed it and if you go to Ron Rambach's Music Matters site it's clearly stated that after October 30, 1958, BN monos were 50% channels' fold down. http://www.musicmattersjazz.com/sound.html. Said that, if you already have a collection of BN original monos, are you going to replace it with new stereo reissues because of that? I have a lot of "true" monos of other labels, including Prestige, VeeJay, ecc and the early Beatles/Stones/Dylan/James Brown, ecc. as you probably know stereo and mono mixes were radically different in the early rock records so the earth remains firm under the feets over here, so I believe it does in Sidewinder's garden.. BTW The Music Matters 45rpm Test Pressing that Ron sent to me (Horace Parlan BST 4043) sounds gorgeous, the best I heard from a reissue, unfortunately I haven't the original pressing of this particular title, nor mono or stereo, so I couldn't direct A/B compare, but I did with the Mosaic I have, and it was a no contest. Hoffman did a great job on it, way better then the Classics I own and closer to Van Gelder's early sound and spirit. So if you're in the market for the "new" best sounding BN reissues I warmly reccomend it, if you can afford the price and bare the annoyance of flip the record after every track. Claude, Claude, read the entire thread before posting. And I still think Hoffman is a pretensious and greedy "good sound remasterer", surrounded by McCarthyst-like worshippers.

Glad to hear it. I know how it could be stressfull with new (or used) audio stuff. Lately I passed through some similar trouble with a preamp I really crave, on the paper: first one I got had a problem with one channel, second one had a problem with a defective tube. Fixed all that, I just discovered I didn't like how it sounded in my audio chain, fortunately I could have my old preamp back and it didn't cost me a dime. This frustrating story started in july, with stuff coming in and back from Osaka to Rome, from the shop to my house and back, not a real tragedy, but an hassle for sure.

the real genetically modified food scandal
porcy62 replied to alocispepraluger102's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Indeed. And if yurpeans are to blame is for their economic support of EU agriculturs, rather then GM. And blame that genius of GWB for the support of biofuel that rised up the price of food in the global market. It may affect the price of our pop-corn for few cents, but it has a big impact in poor countries, if you consider that in poor countries people spend more then 70% of their income for food, compared to our 10%. -

It reminds me a movie: Charly, that impressed me when I saw at times, I was very young. http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0062794/ -
That is so wrong. Well, in an album's list, probably not, but in a song's list...Child In Time should be in the 100.

Yep, and no Pink Floyd, no Nick Drake, no King Crimson, no Zep, no Herbie, no JackieMac...and still no Zappa. I hate to be fatherly even in the forum, it's a full time job with a 18 y/o gremlin around my home, but you see, Baptizum, we that growned up in the album's era, didn't had too much music at hand as you and my son have, so every record we owned, or cassettes, unpayed copyrights, was played hundreds of times. I can sing most of the my favourite vinyls, pops and scratches included, from the first note. So I judge your list as a work in progress...and listen to some other Zappa.
