  1. I guess no one was able to watch the video and figure out who those two musicians are from their silhouettes. Number 1 looks like Herbie Hancock. Number 2 has a very distinct hair line but I can't put a face on the silhouette.
  2. The concert is on Friday September 10, 2010. Sonny has a number of guests with him which have announced, but there are two mystery guests. Anyone have a guess as to who these two mystery musicians could be? Russell Malone is now in Rollins' band. I did ask Russell when I saw him playing with Ron Carter this month. He said he didn't know himself. Anyway, I will find out the night of the concert. The guests announced are Jim Hall, Roy Hargrove, and Christian McBrride. Maybe the ghost of Coleman Hawkins is one of the mystery musicians. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fho4oTU7T9Q&feature=digest
  3. I keep listening to the audio samples and I am getting so excited. It feels like when you were a kid and saw those Christmas presents under the tree with your name, but you can't touch them yet; just out of reach. Does anyone know if any of the restored discs can be listened to at the museum? I will venture uptown to give a listen.
  4. I'm already placing my pre-order. Never too early. Hopefully Mosaic will put this out one day.
  5. The best of luck to the three of you.
  6. I am willing to spend around 250 to 300 dollars. WiFi would be a nice feature.
  7. So Sonny was demanding more for admission then most acts.
  8. I am looking to buy one so I can listen to stations that I can't get in NY. Internet radios will basically allow you to listen to any station around the world that broadcast over the Internet. Some hook up to your existing stereo equipment. But there are some many. Does anyone here have one? If so, which one do you have? Sure you can just go to the web site but I want one so when I am not on my computer I can listen. http://www.nextag.com/internet-radio-players/search-html
  9. So the artist playing at the club really didn't dictate the cost?
  10. The best of luck.
  11. I was speaking with someone last at at the Vanguard who saw Sonny Rollins at Ronnie Scott's in 1974. The price of his ticket was 5 pounds. To me that sounds very inexpensive but then again this was 1974. Would anyone know if this was what ticket prices were going for to see a show at Ronnie Scott's?
  12. RIP Abbey Playing her album "That's Him" with Sonny Rollins, Wynton Kelly, Paul Chamber and Max Roach. A great record.
  13. KD Lang Lang Lang Vladimir Horowitz
  14. Kevin, that is exactly it. He just couldn't hit some notes and at times seemed to be lost and didn't know how to solo. Age will do us all in in time.
  15. My parents had a number of his recordings. RIP Mitch.
  16. He is still working a lot in NY. I'm hoping he wasn't well that night at the Jazz Standard and will be in top form at Birdland when I go see him again.
  17. I really like George Coleman's playing. I last saw him at the beginning of this year at the Jazz Standard in NYC. It was so sad. He had lost his chops. In fact the person that checked your reservations at the door had to grab his horn and come on stage to play with George. It reminded me of the last years of Freedie Hubbard and how he lost his chops on the trumpet. Has anyone seen him live in the past 5 to 6 months? I may go and see him at Birdland, but I don't want to see a prize fighter fight one too many fights.
  18. Damn, there just too many of these guys and girls leaving us. RIP Martin.
  19. I have never seen George Braith and I will most differently make an effort to catch on night when he plays the Fat Cat in NYC. Venue: Fat Cat Billiards & Jazz Performer: George Braith Start Time: Monday, Sep 6, 8:45 pm Price: Description: Ages: All Ages Live Jazz!
  20. That sucks. I've been through that too. One time my wife wasn't feeling well, I took her to the doctor and we sat there for 3 1/2 hours. That was the last time we used that doctor. He had booked more patients then seats. People were standing in the waiting room. And of course we got the you must pay your co-payment first before seeing the doctor.
  21. I've seen Benny Powell many times with Randy Weston's band. This is real sad news.
  22. Sad to hear this. They are all going.
  23. I just did a search on Dexter Gordon and Johnny Griffin and came across this site streaming tons of concerts. http://www.sugarmegs.org/
