  1. Kevin, that is exactly it. He just couldn't hit some notes and at times seemed to be lost and didn't know how to solo. Age will do us all in in time.
  2. My parents had a number of his recordings. RIP Mitch.
  3. He is still working a lot in NY. I'm hoping he wasn't well that night at the Jazz Standard and will be in top form at Birdland when I go see him again.
  4. I really like George Coleman's playing. I last saw him at the beginning of this year at the Jazz Standard in NYC. It was so sad. He had lost his chops. In fact the person that checked your reservations at the door had to grab his horn and come on stage to play with George. It reminded me of the last years of Freedie Hubbard and how he lost his chops on the trumpet. Has anyone seen him live in the past 5 to 6 months? I may go and see him at Birdland, but I don't want to see a prize fighter fight one too many fights.
  5. Damn, there just too many of these guys and girls leaving us. RIP Martin.
  6. I have never seen George Braith and I will most differently make an effort to catch on night when he plays the Fat Cat in NYC. Venue: Fat Cat Billiards & Jazz Performer: George Braith Start Time: Monday, Sep 6, 8:45 pm Price: Description: Ages: All Ages Live Jazz!
  7. That sucks. I've been through that too. One time my wife wasn't feeling well, I took her to the doctor and we sat there for 3 1/2 hours. That was the last time we used that doctor. He had booked more patients then seats. People were standing in the waiting room. And of course we got the you must pay your co-payment first before seeing the doctor.
  8. I've seen Benny Powell many times with Randy Weston's band. This is real sad news.
  9. Sad to hear this. They are all going.

  16. I needed some laughter today. Contest: CD Giveaway - Kenny G, "Heart and Soul" Before you turn your nose up at Kenny G, just consider the coolness factor of playing with Weezer on an AOL Music Sessions performance promoting the band's recent Raditude album. aritcle I guess 8 am sharp is a key most musicians don't play in. And to compare his practicing to Sonny Rollins. "Kenny G approaches his saxophone playing with the same dedication and resolve as someone like Sonny Rollins, though the end result musically couldn’t be farther apart." The end result is Kenny G: Practice What You Play The iconic smooth jazz saxophonist talks about his music and his golf in a candid interview with JT’s editor in chief Kenny G is practicing. He was supposed to call at 8 am sharp from his home in Southern California, but now it’s almost two hours later and there’s no word. A followup e-mail from his worried publicist sets things in motion and he calls shortly thereafter, apologetic, explaining that he starts practicing early in the morning every day and today he started and got so wrapped up in his exercises that he forgot all about the interview. He then jokes that this is one excuse a jazz magazine can hardly fault. “Especially if I’m doing a thing for JazzTimes, they can’t be too unhappy that I’m practicing, right?” article

  18. I thought New York City was expensive. If you think $43 is too much to pay for lunch, you shouldn't live in Oslo. According to "ECA International", a global human resources company, that's how much an average lunch costs in Norway's capital. But Oslo is only the second-most expensive city on ECA's ranking of 399 global locations. And while the price of an average lunch in Tokyo is a comparatively modest $17.86, other costs, such as a $22 movie ticket and an $8.47 kilo of rice, earn it the dubious honor as the world's most expensive city... article
