I like Ran Blake quite a lot. I will try to find my copy of Rapport and give it another listen. (I haven't heard it in years & my vinyl is very disorganized at the moment.) Film Noir is highly recommended.
That one's been out for awhile, and it's great.
Yes, I've liked all of the Hollenbeck large group recordings that I've heard. They're different than most other large groups.
Now playing:
Rob Mazurek Pulsar Quartet – Stellar Pulsations (Delmark)
— With Angelica Sanchez, Matthew Lux, John Herndon
John Hollenbeck Large Ensemble – Eternal Interlude (Sunnyside)
— With 18 piece ensemble, includes Tony Malaby, Ellery Eskelin, Jacob Garchik, Alan Ferber, Dave Ballou, Laurie Frink, Kermit Driscoll, Gary Versae, Matt Moran, Theo Bleckmann, a.o.
I thought the Gheim CD is a straight reissue of the previous CD release - that's great if there is more material
I'd actually been looking for a second hand copy of the earlier OOP CD
From what I can tell, the original CD issue of Gheim had additional material from the first (cassette?) issue. The CD was 76' long so they couldn't really add to it. Maybe someone should write to Martin Davidson...
I see that amazon.it also has the Heifetz Complete Album Collection for € 167, Horowitz Carnegie Hall, Julian Bream Complete, & Westminster Legacy each for about € 62 before VAT reduction. Also Ashkenazy Decca 50 for € 68.
