  1. Slouch, of course. I hope you can make it. I saw Ran at least 3 times, twice at Cobi Narita's wonderfully intimate loft space, like being in someone's living room. He really clicked with me when I heard him live, much more than previous listening did for me.
  2. Hey, maybe you and Albertson can combine your lists.
  3. Rick Laird Jack Bruce Dave Holland
  4. Conjecture is your alleged deity-given right.
  5. Wouldn't that be a variant on "Ducky," as Marlene Dietrich use it in Witness for the Prosecution?
  6. Maybe for 16 RPM talking books? I remember asking someone what the 16 speed on my turntable was when I was a kid and was told it was for recordings for the blind. So where's the feeling factory?
  7. I visited South Wales once, but I didn't make it to Llareggub. If you're a word maven and you don't know Michael Quinion's World Wide Words, you ought to. http://www.worldwidewords.org/
  8. So, is it Ba-Tzik, Ba-Chik or something else?
  9. Yeah, a very consistent output, as is Rava's ECMs. I think L'Affrontement is my favorite album of his as leader. That was one amazing group.
  10. When he's mentioned how is his last name pronounced?
  11. I almost mentioned Minasi, but maybe he's a bit to the left of straight ahead. I saw him once live and found him to have lots of Ornette in his conception. I'm not that familiar with Joe Diorio but I like him on Eddie Harris's Come On Down.
  12. I guess because it's a romance language borrowing. I like how venerable sounds.
  13. Your next project should be a blank cd with great notes.
  14. I always find Sclavis interesting, but I'm unfamiliar with the other musicians. http://www.inclinaisons.com/artists/index.php?ref=louis-sclavis-2&id=161 I think I've seen him play 5 times: NYC w/ Texier & Romano (Alliance Francaise), NYC 2 nights back to back quintet w/ Matinier on accordeon (Dans La Nuit with film at Alliance Francaise, and music from Affrontement des Pretendants at Tonic), Quartet w/ Dave Douglas (North Sea), and maybe best of all, a quartet with Michel Portal, Henri Texier and Daniel Humair at Montreal Jazz Festival.
  15. I'm pulling my wattle right now.
  16. I don't know about funny, but I always found "obliterate" to be rather mellifluous for its meaning.
  17. Why did they have to call the guy a "chubby trumpeter"? I assume it wasn't a reference to his tone.
  18. He may have been dumb not to jump at the project, but I'm not sure what would lead you to the second sentence conjecture.
  19. There are lots of true things about people I know that I don't state in public.
  20. I guess your name isn't Phil Schaap. False starts give him orgasms.
  21. In Thailand I had, in general, better food from market stalls than restaurants, and never got sick. In India you can stick to 5* hotel restaurants and you're still going to get sick.
  22. Same here. Also the Dameron Royal Roost broadcasts, where he's featured even more prominently. What a beautiful sound. From the site I linked above:
  23. I once had an LP by John Collins. I think Alvin Queen may have produced it. Edit: Found it! http://jazzrecordscene.com/theincrediblejohncollinsnilvanq3412.aspx
  24. The March Fillmores are the dates with Shorter, yes? If so, the sound wasn't so good, so who cares what media it's on?
