  1. Wow, Paul, really tough news and I offer my thoughts. This is never, easy to hear and harder to deal with. I know you'll be strong for your friend.
  2. Chris-- Happy birthday! And many, many more!
  3. Paul Desmond--From the Hot Afternoon. Ahhhhhhhh yeahhhhhhh... Works every time.
  4. Close-- type <control :> and then the vowel of choice. My European keyboard has one ← I don't know if it works with your keyboard, but press the upper case " key first and then the lower case a. ←
  5. Actually, most Lutoslawski should fit the bill. Interesting, the trend toward Russian/Eastern Block composers in this thread (except Satie, of course )
  6. Actually, I was hoping we could meet up with Jazzkat there! Sorry, that was terrible. I'll take a look. It would be fun to put a hang together! ← I'd be up for something on Saturday evening. Why don't you guys check the Philly Jazz section of the Jazzmatazz site and pick something (except maybe for that Spyro Gyra gig at Zanzibar Blue ). ←
  7. I'll be back next weekend--Saturday and Monday nights (Sunday in NYC). Anything going on?
  8. I share your love of water records! That specific label is here; this is the runt distribution page. All kinds of neat looking stuff on water that I've never heard of!
  9. (Original Riverside, though!) This is a great record. Some discussion recently about Kenny's Riverside albums being better than his BN sides...not sure about this, but this one is nice!
  10. Jimmy Smith, Living it Up (original verve LP) Ahmad Jamal, Freeflight (Live at Montreux) (original Impulse LP) Antonio Carlos Jobim, The Wonderful World of Antonio Carlos Jobim (original WB LP) (featuring Nelson Riddle's orchestra! )
  11. Your girlfriend must be back! Fish stew, and roasted beet salad w/ walnuts and blue cheese for me!
  12. Completely agree. Spinning Sunship right now. Somehow it seems different after listening to "one up one down."
  13. Carly Simon. George Michael. But _recorded_ on my birthday?
  14. I have to stop listening to this stuff this year, or my head will explode. First Diz/Bird, then Paris 1960, now this.
  15. Okay, hypothetically speaking, If I were to purchase one, would you mac users recommend increasing the ram from 512 MB to 1 or even 2 Gigs? I do not plan on doing video production, FWIW. Thanks for your thoughts.
  16. ARRRRGH! Everything _BUT_ powerbooks! Oh well.
  17. Borders 20% off coupon through tomorrow! (thanks, bebop!) "As far as I'm concerned....." ← Thanks FFA. Now Jim, FU. You just cost me 20 MF dollars! (You start talking about screaming and shit and I'm all there) ←
  18. Goddammit, Jim, I wasn't going to get this. I _really_ wasn't going to get this. I've bought too much this fall already! But then you had to go and compare it to Paris. Shee-it. Screaming? Sold.
  19. True statement. 4/4 demolished jewel cases from this last batch of Conns from CD Universe. They are good, however, about shipping replacements pronto. True. A major plus is that the man knows how to properly package things up. The box that arrived today looked as though it had been hit by a falling oak but none of the mini-lp corners were dented...not a cracked jewel case in the lot. He puts the ten-thumbed members of the packaging crew at CD Universe to shame....as does Amazon Japan. ←
  20. Wholeheartedly agree--unparalleled service!
  21. Well, as long as we're "hanging it out there," I'll show mine: 1917-1942: I got nothin'. Yes, you read that right. Pathetic. Mea culpa. 1943-1959: Missing the Tristano, got everything else. 1960-1979: Got it all. 1980-2000: Missing the M's, got everyting else. I already knew this, but I've got to get conversant in pre-1957 jazz. Thanks for the list--it will indeed be a good start. P.S. If anyone wants to help guide me down the path of 1917-1942, I promise to be a "willing student"!
  22. Damn, that's terrific news. I really wish I could have been there!!! Glad to hear it was a success...can't wait to hear more details in the coming days! That's pretty much what happened too. It was great to hear the band live! ←
  23. Never underestimate a good seance. Guy ←
