  1. Moi aussi, AB. Is there a fucking full moon out right now, or what? I can't see the forest...through the RAIN!!!@#$$%!@##$
  2. Wilbur Ware
  3. Bummer... I still get a thrill when I watch the stylus sloooooooooooooowly drop to the platter. How did they do that?
  4. I'll bite, with the proviso that hopefully someone can help me take the next step (Lon, I like the look of the Tube amp manufacturer you posted a link to earlier). Marantz 1060 SS amp (ca. 1971) Thorens TD-160 (ca. 1975) with Ortofon cartridge/OM-5E styli (replaced once every 20 days or so) ------------- And for those digital needs: Dell Inspiron 3200 (ca. 1995) for MP3's! Sony DVD/CD I really want to rocket my LP sound to the next level. I'm thinking Rega!
  5. Perhaps! But not a first for Blue Note. Sadly, they left the announcer's interjections between songs out when they transferred Grant Green's "Live at the Lighthouse" to CD to fit it onto one CD (two-disc set). It's sad, because the announcements are really cool, and in some cases, the band is vamping behind him. Live at the Lighthouse is still worth seeking out on wax, IMHO.
  6. Thanks, Dan. This is officially ON my radar screen.
  7. And damn, does it sound nice and tasty. How did I miss hearing about this? I guess it was issued in France or Denmark a couple of years ago, and has just been released stateside. It seems to be mostly ballads--and as far as I can tell, it's really a "duo" recording with Horace and Johnny. The clips I heard were gorgeous; interestingly, the reviewer said the recording was reminiscent of John C's "Ballads" album, and could have been entitled, "Johnny Griffin Plays for Lovers." The reviewer also "detected" some "Stan Getz influence," which I admit I did hear in the clip he played after making the assertion. Interesting. I'll pick this one up for sure--it's the least I can do to support two artists who've given me years of musical enjoyment. I'm just glad they're both still around. Has anyone here gotten it?
  8. I'm too lazy to vote in this goddamned poll. Can someone tell me what the results were.
  9. I was reluctant to jump into this fray, but what the hell... I not only bought a set from UA, but back at the Krypton board, after seeing my responses to a couple of Booby Hutcherson listings, Allan emailed me saying he found a slightly beat-up copy of Live at Montreux that had been decommissioned by a library in Toronto that was mine in exchange for my purchase for him of a particular dusty groove record at a very inexpensive price. In no time the transaction was arranged and completed. A couple of subsequent transactions have been flawless. Your mileage may vary, but I've always found Allan to be an asset to the board, particularly in the area of finding rare stuff. That's my two pennies, and I'm sticking to them!!!
  10. Perfect! Jim, just make us a boxed-set, while you're at it, if you would! All of the above titles in chronological date (by date of composition) would be nice, if you wouldn't mind. Thanks in advance--my check for $50.00 is in the mail!
  11. Oh, HELLLLLLLL-Yeah!!!!!!! Or "Who's Makin' Love"!!!
  12. How 'bout Organissimo's take on The Sermon--20 minutes of down and dirrrrrrrrty greaaaaaazzzzy blues! Well, maybe not 20 minutes'-worth, but it would be a good choice, methinks...
  13. Sign me up!
  14. ROTFLMAO!!!
  15. Wow. If anyone ever wondered about the value of this place, they need only read this thread. HOW MANY TIMES does one get to witness the likes of Lawrence Kart, Chuck Nessa and Jim Sangrey (and others) debate and discuss the musicianship of Tyrone Washington and Joe Henderson, with such a combined degree of knowledge, understanding and historical perspective? Not bloody many times! Thank you, all of you, for your insights on this music we all hold so close to our hearts and minds.
  16. Outstanding, John!
  17. If you don't like my driving, call 1-800-eat-shit!!!
  18. I love Fridays! (just in general, although it might be a good caption!)
  19. "I KNEW I shouldn't have bought a French car!"
  20. "Lift Every Voice" sans vocals. That record is seriously stressing me out!!!
  21. Or Gravy Train--we can watch sweet Poppa Lou chowin' down!
  22. Back at the Krypton board there was a great list of the Rare Groove issues. Did anyone save it, and has anyone updated it with the most recent issues (Gary Bartz, among others)? I looked and looked here, but couldn't find it. Thanks in advance!
