  1. Yay! I'm back on! Sucks not having access...
  2. Hang in there, friend...my thoughts are with you.
  3. Stefon Harris, "Grand Unification Theory"
  4. No.
  5. What about Africaine? According to AMG, Dizzy Reece played congas on it!
  6. Nice review, DG! I'm going to try to get up there this weekend--hopefully this slush will clear the hell out by then....
  7. Thank you!
  8. AAAAAArrrrrghhhhhhhhh! Who actually gives a damn about the COVER???!!! This CD contains music: a) By Miles Davis B) From 1951 c) That you've NEVER HEARD BEFORE. What is it possible to complain about? Are folks going to start weighing in on the "soundstage?" Or, "It's only 20-bit remastered, I thought it would be 24-bit?" Can we have some of those who have heard this weigh in on the music, please? /rant
  9. Fantastic news, guys! Two thumbs up, way up!
  10. Whhhhooooooooowwwwwww. Just copped a copy of this, and am listening to it for the first time. I never heard Miles' previously released Fillmore East sides. I wouldn't say I'm having trouble getting into this, but it is challenging listening, being, in my opinion, heavier than Bitches Brew, heavier than LIVE/EVIL. I mean, this is some seriously thick sound. The polyrhythms are blowing me away; at times, it seems like there are three drum sections overdubbed (plus percussion sections to boot)! I'm curious what others think of these sides. I'm having trouble thinking/writing about them without really digging into them and listening deeper, but I'd like to make a project of it over the weekend, kind of like Gdogus' era-by-era approach to Miles' music he was interestingly writing about last week. But I'd also love to hear from those who were around when Miles' other Fillmore sides (this CD contains newly released material, apparently) hit the streets, or tapes from that same time. I mean, this shit is so real it blows the doors off a lot of what I'm hearing today, to say nothing of how it must have sounded "brand new" in 1970. Thoughts?
  11. You've got mail!
  12. Hey Marty! Emailed you about several of the Davis sets. Thanks! Peter
  13. Everything works. Listing to Sam Rivers right now! Cool stuff. Love the set! I might have to buy Crystals--I've been looking at it for a while, now is probably time to pull the trigger!
  14. I love Uri Caine. He apparently played with Hank Mobley toward the end of his life, here in Philly, in the late 70's/early 80's. I say him with a crazy group playing his take on Back's Goldberg Variations--killer set. I love the recorded version of it as well. I had his Bedrock CD, which was fascinating in an out, late 70's Herbie kind of way, but left the disc (and many others) on a plane. I'm sure I'll never see them again... I've never heard him play straight-up jazz, but would jump at the chance to do so.
  15. I tend to be an early riser, sometimes around 5-6 a.m., so I start to panic if it's getting to be 10-11 p.m. and I haven't hit the sack yet. As ridiculous as it might be, I seem to need eight hours of sleep to function. Wish I could get by on less!
  16. Who will it be....
  17. Chris, it might be cumbersome, and my possible solution is due to my inability to burn. But if I can come up with a safe way to mail the discs and you can copy, I'd be happy to send them to you, you can burn them, and send them back to me. Let me know.
  18. Damn, a lot of catching up to do! Finally broke into my CD tonight (thanks a million, Tom in Rhode Island!) and I'm digging it. I'll post my thoughts here in the next day or two. Nice work, John.
  19. From the tap, through the tap-mounted brita. Much better than straight (Philly water--straight from the Delaware, after about four other states have dumped their shit into it!!! ). Occasionally have the odd bottle of San Pellegrino as well.
  20. Hey SGUD (Phil)! I heard a track from Convergence Zone tonight on the way home from work on WRTI (Temple U--Philadelphia). Your record is TIGHT!!!!!!!! I wish I could remember the name of the tune...for what it's worth, after the intro, it leads with a trumpet solo (and the guy is excellent). I loved it! I must pick up this album POST HASTE. Where would you prefer I grab it? I.e., from whence do you get the BIGGEST CUT?
  21. Brubeck's "Time" series (all of them) on LP, courtesy of dad, about age 5 (1976)!
  22. I hope they release "Back from the Gig!" Just kidding, Tom & Bertrand!
  23. First pressing deep groove Blue Train for ten bucks. I thought the cover looked cool. Little did I know! Summer 1997.
