I've really been enjoying the latest Prestige two-fer re-issues: Shirly Scott's "Trio Classics Vol 1" and especially Houston Person's "Broken Windows, Empty Hallways" (I haven't gotten Johnny "Hammond" Smith's "Opus de Funk" yet.) Does anyone have a list of the two-fers? Thanks

I have to agree with wesbed. I picked up this cd simply because it is part of the Verve LPR series and I haven't regretted it at all. Like others, I'm not sure how I'd catagorize it, other than enjoyable music.

here is a slightly different coupon, good until the 14th for 25% off another Border's coupon

I'm glad to see some debunking of the "not for beginners" myth. I don't ascribe to the belief that there is a "hierarchy" of music with Kenny G at one end and avant jazz at the other and your “coolness” or "sophistication" determined by how far you “advance.” Some music speaks to you, some doesn't. Some music I hated as a youth, I love now. And visa-versa. But not enjoying the music is not the same as not appreciating it. I acknowledge Taylor's talent, but there are many other people's music I prefer listening to. However, next year? Who knows?!

I'm a heritic but, I bought it, listened to it, didn't like it, and traded it. Just chalk me up to one of those tin-eared, don't get the subtlies, narrow-minded jazz types. B)

Okay, I came to this thread late (I don't really have an interest in Rush, but I'll defend to the death anyone's right to love them) but deus' quote caught my interest. I changed it slightly to see what you all thought: No, Mosaics are not bad. What's bad is constantly talking about them. It's not necessary. I think we got it by now: "Mosaics are good. Mosaics are great. They can put a collection together. They changed everyone's life. Without them, the world wouldn't be the same. The remastering is just AWE-some. They're expensive, but not as expensive as Japanese imports ... and now they make Selects. Wow. Great. Fantastic." Let's move on. -_-

I hate to throw a wet blanket on this offer, but I have a feeling that there won't be any % off or any other Mosaic special in the near future if they are offering this now.

Here is another site of interest. Jazz labels

I'm thinking of a trip to Stamford, CT. I've heard there is this factory tour of a place called Mosaic that shouldn't be missed! I'm hoping they provide samples at the end of the tour B) Actually, don't vacations mean less $$ for music?!

What have you learned from being on this forum?
Alec replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Forums Discussion
I learned that on this board that "a jazz fan and his money are soon parted!" -
Another thanks to you guys and gals here for turning me on to the Atlantic NO set. I got it shortly after it hit the 'last chance' list and have been enjoying it ever since. However, for the sake of my bank account and marraige, I hope we have a break from titles appearing on the 'running low/last chance' list.

Alec replied to DrJ's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Another thanks to this board for the Mosaic updates! My copy of the Kelly/Chambers (along with a select) came yesterday. I certainly would be kicking myself if I had missed it. -

Another one gone! Add me to the list of those who bought the Chambers/Kelly Vee Jay (I already had the Morgan/Shorter) -
Well, the set I ordered on May 2 came today! Not bad service from France. I've only listened to the Blossom Dearie and Sarah Vaughan and all I can say is "ooh la la!"

****Cinematography Corner****
Alec replied to Brandon Burke's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Speaking of Cinematography, have you seen the documentary "Visions of Light: The Art of Cinematography"? It was put together by the AFI in 1992. Lots of clips and great interviews. Highly recommended. -
Add me to the list of those who enjoy Ms. Washington. I too bought the Mercury Series and love it. I know that there are those who bemoan her "commercial" sides, and to them I say "Plffffft".

Who got the higher score on the citizenship test?
Alec replied to Dan Gould's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I gave it to Pam because I think she keeps abreast on government concerns, plus, after all the time she has been in court with Tommy Lee I’m sure she has a lot to get off her chest. Also, going tit for tat against Manny gives her the edge. B) -
Now this article will keep you awake at nights! My private nightmare!

Okay, I give up. How do you upload and post pictures? I figured out how to link to other sites, but not this. Help me please. Thanks

Well, I pulled the trigger (how do you say trigger in French?). Not knowing the language I hope I ordered the right set. Thanks Chaney and J.A.W.
