Although slightly off topic, I heard they are remaking The Posidon Adventure (I don't know if Adam Sandler is in that remake)

I just found out that I'll be teaching in China for four weeks this summer near Shanghai (actually Suzhou area), then taking two weeks to travel around. Any suggestions/recommendations? tips/tricks? Any board members there? Places to find oop Mosaics? Chinese Jazz? Thanks

What to get a new first time mom on Mother's day
Alec replied to Johnny E's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Whenever my mom gave my father a had time about Mother's Day he would say "I don't have to get you anything; you're not my mother!" -
No offence intended to sidewinder, but if I’m in a bar and I order a G&T and it comes with a lemon, I know I’m dealing with a bartender who doesn’t know his/her stuff. G&Ts are always to be served with lime. (I have one in front of me now) My martinis however I like with a twist of lemon peel.

Have any of you talented graphic artist types made covers for the Verve downloads? I have got a few but no artwork or notes. I wish they world make the covers and note available too.

you didn't mention this one that I'm looking forward to: 6/28/05 Sammy Davis Jr. and Carmen McRae - Boy Meets Girl: The Complete Sammy Davis Jr. and Carmen McRae on Decca - Reissue - Verve Records

Does Leonhart sing on "Super Standard - Super Trio" ? I love his playing but hate his singing. Did Mel Torme encourage Leonhart to sing more? I can forgive much in the singing department, but I just can't abide his. The last Leonhart cd I picked up with his singing I couldn't get rid of fast enough.

I'd second (or third) what many have already stated. Personally, I'd put the "Seven Steps" box first, followed by the "'65-'68" box. I've stayed away from the Miles and Gil box for the reasons indicated. I like the "Blackhawk" set too, but as a gift the "Seven Steps" looks as well as sound impressive. my 2 cents

Don't forget that Borders is still having the buy 3 get one free CD sale. Although they are usally overpriced, it might be a good deal. I can't wait to pick up the Blakey and the Mobley, I'm sure I can find two more!

Add me to a fan of this set. I also got the 6cd live set: "Olympia - Pleyel - Th. Champs Elysees de 1957 a 1969. Oscar with Ray Brown, Bobby Durham, Roy Eldridge, Herb Ellis, Louis Hayes, Jo Jones, Sam Jones, Stuff Smith, Clark Terry, Ed Thigpen, and Butch Watanabe. I'm still getting through the set but for me there is a lot to like here. I'll also second the "Exclusively for My Friends" series which has been reissued by MPS in 6 vols in dual SACD and CD format. This is some of his best work IMHO.

I was thinking of copying the article for my high school seniors, but most of them seem to be examples of people who, as Nerenberg states "... don't merely resist; they actively fight intelligence." ::sigh:: Still, one must try.

I-tunes has volume 3 of this series, but are the other volume avail? I've only see a japanese version of volume 3. I thought they had been collected together, but I can't find anything. If not, how about a Mosaic Select?
-
Thanks for the replies. I'm trying to expand my jazz listening and I looking at the neglected (for me) European jazz scene. I'm finding some great stuff, but I still need to be educated further.

I just pulled the trigger on this set. At first some of the comments about the vocals scared me off, but then I remembered ---- I like vocals! Heck, I even have the 4 Freshmen set and I'm not ashamed to say I enjoy it. (in moderation) ::ducking:: For those who aren't sure, allmusic has sound clips of all the songs. One of these days I'll be so rich that I'll buy the mosaics as they're announced, not when they get on the last chance page

Note that Napster and Napster to Go are not the same. Regular Napster works like itunes or emusic. You pay per track and you have rights to burn them to cds or copy them to mp3 players. The unlimited napster to go works differently Note that: So, the flat rate napster is not the deal it seems to be. as the site says: Word!
