My copy just came in. I haven't spun it yet nor perused the cookbook, but I hope to in the next few days. I'm the cook of the house for the next few weeks/months as my wife recuperates from surgery so I'm hoping there's an interesting (and easy) recipe in here. Now spinning - David Weiss Sextet - Auteur (Origin). David with a killer band of Myron Walden, Nicole Glover, David Bryant, Eric Wheeler & E.J. Strickland. Really enjoying the playing on this. Strickland is quite the drummer, with fun little accents here & there. I'm a bit bummed that I missed this band when they played at Scullers a little while back, but I had previous commitments. I hear it was a good show.

So after many many years of searching, I have finally gotten my hands on this CD. It's great to be able to hear more music from these sets at the Up/Over. I wonder if Mike LeDonne recorded the band the night I saw him there around the same time? If I remember correctly, he had Jim Rotondi, Eric Alexander, Nat Reeves & Joe Farnsworth in his band. That was a fun night for sure.

Weird News Tonight (or Today!!!!!)

If Allen wants back in, he needs to contact Jim A. As I understand it, he did ask to have all of his posts removed when he decided to leave and since we just had someone delete their entire post history a few weeks before, Jim A decided he didn't want that again so he blocked Allen. Since Jim A has since decided that he wanted to avoid anyone from deleting their entire posting history so he turned off that ability. I see no reason that he couldn't turn Allen's account back on if Allen requests it. And again, Allen asked Jim A to delete his account, so this is not the result of any moderation event.

What vinyl are you spinning right now??
Kevin Bresnahan replied to wolff's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
It might be in your local record shop. It was reissued on CD & LP in 2017. -

The last few batch of covers posted to that "Sexiest Covers" thread were not anything like "All Smiles". They were soft core porn shots from Jane Birkin LPs - cover shots that they don't even show on discogs.com. On top of that, as I understand it, the mods had to delete a bunch more like these earlier. If that thread hadn't gone that route, who knows if it would have been dumped? In the end, moderating it became a PIA and it wasn't worth the hassle. And I would note that neither Jim S nor I deleted the unmodified cover of "All Smiles" posted in this thread. -

I don't get what that has to do with my comment. I was not commenting about the nudity. I was commenting that an album titled "All Smiles" has a woman clearly not smiling. And we all know why that thread was pulled. It got out of hand and people wouldn't reign it in. -

Never understood that cover anyway... maybe if the woman was smiling. -
83 is a good run. I hope to make it that long, Has The Youngbloods self-titled LP really only been issued on CD twice, once in the UK in 1988 and again in 2014 in Japan? That seems unbelievable.

Allen Lowe is not coming back unless he works something out with Jim A. Edited to add that it was Allen's decision to leave. Jim A. just made it so that he couldn't delete all of his content when he left.

A moderator's job here on organissimo forums has never been defined by Jim A. We've had several through the years that have done a decent job of deescalating arguments. It's fine line between deleting/editing inflammatory comments and censorship. Jim S seems to allow almost everything to go on for a lot longer than other moderators, likely because he expects things to work out in the end. This may be why some people don't like his style. In the absence of Larry Kart, Jim A. recently asked me to help out. While I enjoy a good debate, I am less inclined to let them get as nasty as Jim has on a few occasions. Hopefully our two moderation styles can co-exist here and we can make this a good place to visit for everyone.

I'm pretty sure that Mnytime was playing us with a long con, although I don't know what his endgame was. He sounded like he had connections in the industry, but quite a few of my connections at the time didn't think he was right with everything he reported. For instance, he reported that Columbia couldn't wait to get rid of Wynton Marsalis but everyone I asked said that their connections at Columbia didn't have any problems with him and that his discs sold OK, though they faded in the end. Then the story changed and it was his girlfriend that was working at Columbia and she didn't like Wynton. Then his girlfriend became his wife. Then it was his ex-girlfriend. The story seemed to change and change. His untimely demise was also very weird. At first, he was sick (was it cancer?). Then he had a car accident. Then his "brother" came on using his account to say he died, yet his brother wrote exactly like Mnytime did and seemed to have the same insider connections. It just sounded like a story concocted to kill off his persona. On top of that, his brother disappeared when he was asked about his brother's services. All in all, it didn't sound like he was being honest with us.

Part of the problem with regular posters like soulpope choosing to leave is that we aren't getting new members, so whenever any of us leave for an extended period, it creates a bit of a void. FWIW, there is a huge waiting list of people wanting to get on the forum but a cursory look at the applicants' info shows that it's faked and the applicant is simply looking to spam the heck out of us, so I skip approving them. Again, if anyone knows of someone legitimately trying to join the forum, contact me with their E-mail address. BTW - the biggest problem with trying to screen these applicants is that almost all of them use gmail e-mail addresses. A gmail E-mail is almost impossible to Google to find a real person so I generally skip over them.

If you read his Wiki entry, his downward career path was probably due to his addictions, rather than bad luck. He died at 38 from cirrhosis. -
I was at the Up/Over Jazz Cafe for one of the nights James recorded enough music for two self-released CDs, "Blues Up And Over Vol. 1" & "Round To It Vol. 2". I was pretty excited to hear these CDs, as I remember that night being pretty fantastic. I bought "Blues Up And Over" right away, but to this day, I have never found a CD copy of "Round To It" and missed this thread back in 2005. I see that James is now offering a download of "Round To It". It's a bit steep (as downloads go) at $18, but I may have to bite the bullet to finally re-hear this music. https://jamesspaulding.bandcamp.com/album/round-to-it

The entire "Heavy Metal" soundtrack isn't really a bunch "heavy metal" musicians, so Blue Oyster Cult fits fine. From the track listing, maybe Black Sabbath fits the bill, but most of the others are "What the heck are they doing on there?" musicians. Donald Fagen? Cheap Trick? Stevie Nicks? Devo? Sammy Hagar – Heavy Metal Riggs – Heartbeat Devo – Working In The Coal Mine Blue Öyster Cult – Veteran Of The Psychic Wars Cheap Trick – Reach Out Don Felder – Heavy Metal (Takin' A Ride) Donald Fagen – True Companion Nazareth – Crazy (A Suitable Case For Treatment) Riggs – Radar Rider Journey – Open Arms Grand Funk Railroad – Queen Bee Cheap Trick – I Must Be Dreamin' Black Sabbath – The Mob Rules Don Felder – All Of You Trust – Prefabricated Stevie Nicks – Blue Lamp

This is really good. The two of them did 3 recording dates for Hep, released on 2 CDs, this and "Green & Blue". These dates were Mazurek's last hard bop dates. I don't think he plays in that style anymore.

I got this one in and spun it last night. It's definitely "Italian restaurant music". It does break out into some jazzier sections but it's mostly not. I still like it for what it is.

Two doctors were sitting on a park bench when they noticed an older man walking at them all hunched over with a stiff, shuffling gait. When he walks past their bench, one of the doctors said, "We noticed your're having trouble walking. I was thinking you might have something wrong with your hip. My colleague here thinks it's your back". The man stopped and said, "I guess we're all wrong then. I thought it was a fart".

Hershey used to make everything in Hershey, PA. These days, not so much. All of their "minis" are made in Mexico, including the mini Reese's peanut butter cups. Many of their novelty bars, like the jumbo Reese's PB cups, are also made in Mexico. All York Peppermint Paddies are made in Mexico. For a long time, all Hershey kisses were made in PA but there seems to be some variation to that. BTW - we will never know where much of their chocolates are made because the US has never required any food product to be labeled with a country of origin. It's even worse with M&M/Mars products as they hide where all of their products are made. At least Hershey labels some of their products for us.

I really like this one.

Victor Goines - Genesis (A.F.O. Records). I don't remember buying this or the last time I played it... I wonder if I bought it directly from Victor years ago after a set?

I also ordered this one from that label:
