  1. Gianluigi Trovesi - From G To G
  2. This Thursday night (10/3/2024) at the Regattabar in Cambridge, MA there's a show being billed as "Big Boston Baritone Benefit", with 4 baritone sax players putting on a show to raise money for baritone saxophonist Claire Daly's Go Fund Me to help her pay her medical bills stemming from her cancer treatments. This should be fun for us bari fans. They'll have 4 bari players up there - Melanie Brooks, Alan Chase, Charlie Kohlhase & Kathy Olson - backed by a p/b/d rhythm section. https://www.ticketweb.com/event/big-boston-baritone-benefit-regattabar-tickets/13573404?pl=regatta
  3. One of the weirdest album covers I own. Is he trying to convey that his saxophone is like baby Jesus in a manger? I mean... he looks like he's praying over it and those are sheep in the background, right?
  4. She'll always be Professor McGonagall from Harry Potter or Grandmama from Downton Abbey in my house. My family truly enjoyed her in both of those.
  5. Japanese CD sale This sale is closed
  6. As I understand it, the first batch of Connoisseur releases were the rarest Blue Note LP titles, with Tina Brooks' "True Blue" likely the rarest of them all. I seem to remember an eBay auction back then where someone paid close to $10,000 for a copy. It's not surprising then, that his name was not well known in Europe because it was not really well known in the US until the Mosaic box.
  7. I'm planning to see Wingspan at Scullers Saturday night. This show, celebrating the music of Mulgrew Miller has Steve Nelson on vibes, Duane Eubanks on trumpet, Steve Wilson on saxophone, Benito Gonzalez in the piano chair, Nat Reeves on bass, & Carl Allen on drums. At this point, I'm wondering if the show is going to happen as there are not many tickets sold. This is becoming a problem here in the Boston area.
  8. Denardo may be honoring his father's wishes, which is not a bad thing in my book.
  9. During Benny's last swing through Boston, he played at Scullers Jazz club (great club BTW). 89.7 FM WGBH recorded the second set that night, which was identical to the first set (which I know because I was at the first set). They have posted it on their website: https://www.wgbh.org/music/jazz/2018-02-07/benny-golson-live-from-scullers
  10. Great composer and player. I was lucky to have seen him play several times over the years and he never failed to give his all. Thanks for the music Benny.
  11. He said to give you his greetings right back… and he said you said you still owe him $20. 😀😀😀
  12. Michael Cuscuna was able to find original metal masters for many of the tracks RVG used on those CDs. Michael was extremely happy with how they came out and felt that these CDs would stand the test of time.
  13. I had no idea he was still with us. 98 is a good run.
  14. It's been a while, but I'm getting back to a show this Saturday night. James Carter is playing at Scullers in Boston. I used to catch Carter on every swing through Boston but it's been a long time since I saw him last. He usually puts on a great performance. I know his showmanship turns some of you off but I actually like the stuff he does quite a bit.
  15. I just got from a week long cruise along the Danube River. I was in Vienna on the 12th & 13th and the rain was torrential, with the howling winds blowing it horizontal. I nearly got blown into a street by the wind during one severe gust. The Viking river boat I was on got to Budapest on the 14th and it's looking like they might be stuck there for a while as the Danube river's locks are all closed for the foreseeable future. Even though our cruise was very rainy, we were very lucky we got to travel the river from Regensburg, Germany to Budapest before these floodwaters shut it down.
  16. My friend Jason Rubin recommended this blues CD containing music during the last two weeks of the 1369 Jazz Club in Cambridge, MA in 1988. Good stuff. His review is here: https://artsfuse.org/297061/jazz-album-review-the-final-days-of-the-1369-jazz-club-rare-and-precious-recordings/
  17. Although I never got to see him play, I've enjoyed his LPs. Covid claims another Jazz great.
  18. Was it from an artist or a label? I had an artist take a really long time to send the CD to me. I think it was close to year before I got it. He apologized and said he was on tour when my order came in and he forgot to send it.
  19. I was digging through a box of old stuff up in the attic and found the program. It turns out it was 1989. Me & dad had fun at that auction. Jay Leno had us all laughing & my dad got Jay to laugh when he bid up that box of garbage. The whole place knew my dad was doing it. I think Jay did the same thing with a few of the items he was bidding on.
  20. I don't know WTF this has to do with football but whatever. Also, there's this from Wiki: The Babylon Bee is a conservative Christian news satire website that publishes satirical articles on topics including religion, politics, current events, and public figures. It has been referred to as a Christian or conservative version of The Onion. We really don't Babylon Bee shit in an NFL discussion.
  21. It seems that if Jimmy's manages to sell these tickets at their insane price, they jack the remaining tickets up. It's like they're trying to find the max price they can get. Note that these tickets are not from the secondary market. These are Jimmy's tickets at Jimmy's price.
  22. This is still happening. It's too bad that the main site is totally dead.
  23. I never got to hear him either. I'm surprised to read Gheorghe's glowing reviews of his live performances as I was told by someone who saw him later in life and they said that every time they saw him, he seemed drunk and was not playing very well.
