  1. As noted earlier in this thread, this recording is technically in the public domain in the UK, which may be the only reason it's available there right now. I wouldn't wait for the US copyright to run out in 2057. I doubt I'll live to see that calendar date and even if I am still around, I doubt that this Monk release will matter a whole lot to me.
  2. I just don't see how a full digital recording can sound better on vinyl than CD, which is why i haven't bought these Tone Poet LPs. The CDs certainly have a "you are there" quality to them.
  3. I was able to get a copy of the Ron Carter double LP set, "Foursight: Stockholm".
  4. Vangelis - China (Polydor). Sometimes I just want to veg out to some sounds. This works.
  5. Duke Ellington Meets Coleman Hawkins (Impulse!). I really love this album. The opener, "Limbo Jazz", always gets me moving.
  6. I'll wait for the CD version in December. Resonance's LPs are expensive. The 3 LP Grant Green "Funk In France" set was selling for $70 and it didn't even include a download card.
  7. I ordered one too. We'll see if this one "ships" as in really ships and not just give me a shipping notice.
  8. I have great memories of seeing Roy Haynes live many times. Those memories will be with me forever.... but... I stopped going to Roy's shows a few years ago. At the last show I saw, he was acting like someone who was not "all there" and I was a bit sad to see him that way. Sure, when he played, he was great, but the long, odd diatribes between songs just didn't sit well with me and the vocal numbers he sang were not very good.
  9. What's funny is that his last major label release by the time 1967 rolled around was with Impulse! Wouldn't it be a riot if they dig up an old contract and find out that they can PaloAlto this?
  10. I would've thought that you were spinning it in honor of the recently-departed Charli Persip.
  11. This isn't supposed to be released until Friday (8/28).
  12. Chris Washburne & The S.Y.O.T.O.S. Band - Fields Of Moons (Jazzheads). A more mellow CD from the usual barn-burning S.Y.O.T.O.S. (See You On The Other Side) band. Really enjoy the soft Latin rhythms. Many of these tunes give you the feeling that you should be dancing. I'm a little disappointed that Washburne hasn't been able to record with this band in a while. His last S.Y.O.T.O.S. CD, "Low Ridin'", was recorded and released in 2015, so they're overdue.
  13. Drinking a nice cup of Kona coffee from the very affordable Gold Star Coffee company out of Toronto. I've been using them for several years now and I've never received a bad batch. Their Jamaican Blue Mountain is also very good a very affordable in quantity. Their straight Columbian is smooth as any coffee I've sipped.
  14. LP manufacturing was put in a tough spot when the last big lacquer disc producer burned to the ground. https://www.rollingstone.com/pro/news/vinyl-industry-apollo-masters-fire-951903/
  15. Make sure to back up this CD. It's a cheap CD-R under that label.
  16. Amazing to think that two players from this 1954 concert recording, John Williams & Bill Anthony, are still kicking around at 88 & 90.
  17. John Beasley - Positootly! (Resonance). Nice date with Beasley at the keys and a killer band - Brian Lynch on trumpet, Bennie Maupin on tenor & soprano, James Genus on bass and Jeff "Tain" Watts on drums. Very nicely recorded too at (the now closed) Bennett Studios. Very glad I picked this one up at the Resonance sale a few weeks back.
  18. That is the title of the CD that came with the two bottles of wine. I had to special order that gift box from a local liquor store. The wine was pretty good too. I soaked off one of the labels and slid it into the CD booklet. BTW - Maria changed the cover when she reissued this via ArtistShare. Original Enja CD cover: ArtistShare CD cover: I don't really get that second one.
  19. I'm looking around my listening space in my COVID office and I just noticed all of the music staring at me. I just got in a huge order from Tommy's Jazz's Video Arts sale, a big order from Resonance Records, several Tone Poet Blue Note LPs, the Cuban Jam Sessions box set, Michael Weiss's Kickstarter LP and several LPs from the Bandcamp "COVID-19" sale. I'm looking at almost 50 CDs & LPs to spin. I don't think I even got through all of those Black Saint/Soul Note boxes from the last Tommy's Jazz sale. Maybe I can wait on this for a bit.
  20. We're such a niche market to begin with. Pricing a new release well above the market, especially when said market isn't that great to begin with, seems like a bad business decision... but maybe she's not in it for that? As I said, I'll probably pull the trigger, but I can't believe that I am the only one who has hesitated on this.
  21. With shipping, the 2 CD set is $41 - over $20 per CD. These days, that's quite a bit. It seems like she wants us to download this session, but even that is $24.95. I really like her previous releases, so I'll probably bite the bullet but I am still on the fence.
  22. I truly believe that sometime before January 20th, Wounded Knee is going to become a hot topic again...
