To be honest, Cuscuna didn't even pick the 3 tracks I thought were the best of 'em.
-
I thought I had Michael Cuscuna convinced to add all 6 tracks to "The Sixth Sense" but he decided only 3 met the cut. I was glad that he at least added those three.

That being the case, I'd still probably go with JRiver, as it doubles as an audiophile ripper & player and not simply a cataloging app. At $60, it pays for itself in year 5 or using Collectorz.
-
Are you using the paid version or is there a free version? The reason I asked is because I once downloaded and started working with one of these tools and after I entered about 50 CDs worth of data, it stopped allowing any more entries. I get it if that's the way it works. I am just curious if Coeectorz is like that or if there is a reduced-functionality free version. When I try the free version of an app, I like to really test it out before I buy.

Does the free version of Collectroz have limits that will force you to buy it eventually? Like time usage, number of titles, etc.? JRiver (https://jriver.com/index.html) used to be the best cataloging/ripping/playing music app out there. Unfortunately, it's $60 per PC or $80 for a "master" license.

What vinyl are you spinning right now??
Kevin Bresnahan replied to wolff's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
It looks like the mono LP has 2 more tracks than the stereo version, "Celedia" & "Wildwood". For a Fresh Sounds CD, they managed to dig up another track, "Bye Bye Blues", that must've been on some compilation over the years. -

Is he still playing?? Many years ago, #sonnymax recommended "49th Parallel" and it's a great CD. I've wanted to catch Swainson ever since but I've never seen him listed in the Boston-area.

As I sit here being upset that I've been quarantined to my home due to possible exposure to COVID-19, I read about a 40 year old on-line acquaintance dying from pneumonia. That certainly sets me in my place. This is quite sobering. RIP Cyrille. 40 is so young.

Really old cans of soup
Kevin Bresnahan replied to GA Russell's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
With all of the food hoarding going on right now, I imagine that this topic will feature prominently in future table conversations among those who bought large quantities of canned products. -
Jazz CDs For Sale or Trade

Ken - do you have two copies of this? I bought one of them. -
What live music are you going to see tonight?
Kevin Bresnahan replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
The Shalin Liu performing arts center just cancelled all their events for March, including a Bad Plus show that I was planning to go to on March 22nd. -
On top of that, a portion of those 15% who recover may suffer life-altering lung issues, which will likely shorten their life, which will probably be lived out on a respirator. While I do think this is being overblown to a degree, it should not be fluffed off like some politicians are doing. There needs to be precautions taken but this insanity with Purell and toilet paper selling out everywhere is just... insane.

Jazz CDs For Sale or Trade
Kevin Bresnahan replied to Ken Dryden's topic in Offering and Looking For...
I would like these please. -
The courts said that "My Sweet Lord" plagiarized "He's So Fine". Now these same courts say that "Stairway to Heaven" didn't plagiarize "Taurus". Sit down in front of anyone and play "Taurus" and watch what they say. It will be some variation of "They ripped off Stairway To Heaven!". Once again, Joe Q Public gets told that their ears are faulty by some morons in a courtroom.

RIP to one of Jazz's piano greats. I consider myself lucky to have seen him many times.

Weird that Dexter Gordon's "The Squirrel" is coming out on Rhino/Parlophone when it was issued on CD by Blue Note Records in 1997. Must've been a lease deal, but I didn't know that BN still did that these days. I do want to get that Ron Carter LP, but mainly because I am a sucker for Renee Rosnes' playing and having Jimmy Greene cinches it.

Chris (Hardbop) wasn't a bad guy. I met him a couple of times in person down in New York and I'm friends with him on Facebook. He just happened to like Wynton Marsalis, who we all know is a lightning rod and that brought him into direct conflict with Chris Albertson, which resulted in massive arguments. I always blamed Chris Albertson way more than Hardbop for that stuff.

What live music are you going to see tonight?
Kevin Bresnahan replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
Pianist Tom Snow is bringing local legend Ralph Norris to Jocko's in Methuen tonight. Ralph, even at the age of 84, swings like hell and he's been doing it for a long time. I'm assuming that they're going to play music from their last recording together, "Duke's Diamonds - An Ellington Celebration" (https://store.cdbaby.com/cd/thomassnowtrio) -
I have it and it has some incredible music on it. I don't listen to it as often as I used to. This is the one I have.

Thanks for that correction Hans. Even with my decimal slip, 3200 Yen was a lot of US dollars back in 1991. With the international shipping costs, they were even more. I think the local Tower Records sold them for around $33.
