  1. Charles Earland - Living Black! (Prestige). Green label RVG pressing. Based on the personnel, I was expecting to like this more than I do. Good reviews too. I think what bugs me most is when Earland plays a sustained single tone for far too long. It's gets to be like an audio ear drill.
  2. I am still getting this on my two Linux machines this morning. Since I've never heard of malware working on a Linux box, I would guess that it's the DNS as well.
  3. A few missing albums or tracks might be "no big deal", but it kinda is when they advertise that they *will* be available if you pay.
  4. Great music but I was never a fan of the bootleg-quality sound.
  5. I would really like to be at that Greenfield show but I'm heading down to Orlando, FL early the next day. I hope he adds a few more dates after I get back.
  6. I'm spinning LP2 right now. It's been a while since I pulled this off the shelf.
  7. I love those Blackhawk recordings for Mobley's contributions. I need to pull this box out again myself.
  8. What's even weirder is that if I follow your link to "No Amps Allowed", I see all 15 tracks listed and when I hover over any of these tracks, I get a pop-up message that says, "Go Unlimited to listen to "Track Name". All 15 tracks have this same pop-up message. If I were to buy Amazon Unlimited specifically to hear all of these tracks, I'd be pretty upset at them for lying like that.
  9. Benito's son Romano was a pretty good pianist. I have his Piano e Forte CD that I picked up from trumpeter Cicci Santucci at one of his local appearances a few years back.
  10. I think they're talking about HD Tracks: http://www.hdtracks.com/stan-getz-with-guest-artist-laurindo-almeida-443352 From what I've heard, the audio quality of these Hi Res downloads is all over the map. It varies from recording to recording. It all comes down to the source and the mastering (as usual).
  11. The Blue Note XRCDs were put out by Elusive Disc: http://www.elusivedisc.com/Audio-Wave-Music-Blue-Note-XRCD24/products/1513/
  12. I doubt that there is any kind of archive manager these, especially since I've heard that they shipped all of the tapes into an Iron Mountain facility somewhere in CA. I imagine at this point, anyone making an inquiry about tape availability is at the mercy of whoever cataloged these tapes before shipping them off to storage.
  13. 13 years later, we're going back to Orlando. We'll be there 2/24-3/03/2018. We'll likely be going back to Christini's as I see it's still open. Anyone with some insight into the Jazz scene?
  14. I think Bloom's strength is her ballad playing. One of my favorite recordings by Bloom is "The Red Quartets" with Fred Hersch on piano, Mark Dresser on bass, and Bobby Previte on drums. Most of the tracks can be found on youtube, including this beautiful ballad:
  15. Teddy Edwards - Nothin' But The Truth! (Prestige). Blue label Van Gelder pressing. It's not my favorite Edwards date but I haven't found a lot of his Prestige dates on vinyl. The CDs are usually in the player for his catalog.
  16. Miles Davis - My Funny Valentine (Columbia) Two-eye mono again. I must've bought a pile of these somewhere along the line. I'm not usually a mono guy.
  17. Miles Davis - E.S.P. (Columbia). Two-eye Mono. Beat up, but still plays OK with some surface noise on side 1. Side 2 has a rather large scratch from the edge to the center but my Ortofon 3M Black cartridge plays it with only a little crackle.
  18. I don't think Andre Previn would agree.
  19. I'm spinning this again today. It's a very nice date and one of Rudy's better 80's-era recordings. The bass sounds normal for a change. I wonder if this was done prior to him going all digital?
  20. As mentioned, The Cranberries came to fame in the early to mid-90s, so if you weren't listening to pop/rock during that decade, you never would've heard them. I was still listening to a lot of rock radio back then... and it's not like there has ever been a lot of Jazz radio during my lifetime. You might've heard this song... it got a lot of airplay:
  21. I was a fan of The Cranberries back in their early days. Her Irish lilt singing style irritated some, but I was not one of them. I found it unique.
  22. Blakey definitely took Golson with the Messengers in 1958. There is plenty of recorded evidence out there. I love that RCA date. 23. I agree with that assessment. I actually told my daughter that the NFL should check Willaims' accounts to see if he got paid for not only missing that tackle, but taking out his teammate. That was the worst defensive play I think I've ever seen.
  24. Can someone do a needle-drop for Hot Ptah? It wouldn't be "stealing" since he owns the LP. If someone near me has a copy, I can needle-drop it.
  25. I was a Patriots fan back when they really sucked. Don't worry, your Browns will eventually turn it around. A couple of lucky breaks is all it takes.
