  1. I have a double CD of Pharoah's ballad playing, "Crescent With Love", that I play often. I'll have to try and find a copy of "Welcome To Love".
  2. From that article: <<<<<<<<<<<<<--------------------------------------------------------------------------->>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Hue Jackson said he will need to know that Gordon is not trying to talk his way into being released with this interview. "I don't think he is trying to do that," he said. "I do need to feel comfortable that he's not. If he's coming back to play football, I think he knows he needs to play football here." <<<<<<<<<<<<<--------------------------------------------------------------------------->>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Hmmmm... the guy specifically mentioned that "Cleveland was rough, man", going into gory detail, so you're going to make him come back to play there? That, uh, makes sense, I guess. I wonder if Cleveland might take it easy on him? My guess is - Nope!

I wish was still hosting his live shows on his web page. I listened to a ton of that. I bet he had 15 different shows up at one time or another.
  4. Well that's obscure all right... Only one available on the 'net and it's $45.
  5. Some of Ronnie Cuber's best solos can be found here: https://www.amazon.com/Essence-George-Benson/dp/B00004YZXU
  6. Playing this one again. I see it's now going for big bucks on discogs. It's a nice date but I wouldn't pay $60 for it.
  7. I almost bought the Shank as a gift as well.
  8. Johnny Griffin - A Blowing Session (Vinyl Me Please). 45 rpm pressing means you have to get up every 8-10 minutes but it sounds pretty good. I forget how insane some of these tempos were and how these insane tempos don't seem to be Mobley's forte.
  9. Really? There's another one! Ordered.
  10. I came soooo close to posting this one but I thought maybe it was just me. I do enjoy this one quite a bit. It was "throw in" when I bought a bunch of Tubby Hayes CDs that came out right around the same time and I play this CD more than the Tubby CDs.
  11. I may be confusing "Minor Swing" with "Blue Planet Man". Both have Zorn on it. I'll have to check again later. My PC at work is all messed up after they switched me to Windows 10.
  12. I like John Zorn's playing on Patton's "Minor Swing". I don't have that Nilva record. Should I? Donaldson's "Midnight Soul" is a weird gold-plated French CD that combines the Argo LPs "Signifyin'" & "Possum Head" (minus one track - "Secret Love"). It's one of the few non-Blue Notes by Lou that I return to with any regularity. His later Muse and Milestone dates don't do much for me.
  13. Blue Mitchell - Out Of The Blue Bobby Hutcherson - Color Schemes Curtis Fuller - Blues-ette Dexter Gordon - Biting The Apple Duke Pearson - Prairie Dog Herbie Hancock - Future Shock Horace Silver - Hardbop Grandpop Joe Henderson - Four! John Patton - Minor Swing Lou Donaldson - Midnight Soul McCoy Tyner - New York Reunion Stanley Turrentine - More Than A Mood
  14. Coleman & Mabern?? I wish I could be there too!!
  15. Greg plays locally quite often and he usually brings CDs for sale. I've never seen this one though. I'll have to look for it during his next swing through the area.
  16. From the "What are you listening to" thread in the Vinyl forum.
  17. Obscurity is a tricky word... To many people, Jazz is an obscure musical genre. Some Jazz discs I have were produced in low quantities, but most of us here have probably heard it and may own it. Does that mean it's not obscure to us? There's a CD that I play often but I don't see in the used bins often. It's out of print. The label's out of print. It might be obscure. It might not be. Anyway, I think you should hear this if you haven't already.
  18. I haven't seen Willie in many years, but when I did, he never played two horns at once like he does here:
  19. I am seeing Javon Jackson's superband, We Four, tomorrow night at the Scullers Jazz Club in Boston. I think it's a tribute to Coltrane (according to this blurb: http://www.vtjazz.org/events/2016/11/we-four-javon-jackson-and-jimmy-cobb-celebrate-the-music-of-john-coltrane.html) Javon's bringing Joanne Brackeen, Eddie Gomez & Jimmy Cobb with him. George Cables was originally scheduled to play but he seems to be sick and it looks like it's been for quite a while. I hope he's OK. On the bright side, if there can be a bright side to someone being sick, I haven't seen Brackeen in many years, if at all. I really can't remember the last time I saw her play. EDIT: I just realized that Joanne Brackeen is 79! I did not know she was that old. Man how time flies. There are shows Friday & Saturday. If you're in the Boston area, you might want to catch this band.
  20. Golson is playing at Scullers in Boston next month. He hasn't been through Boston in a long time either. I have my ticket. I would guess that it's been over a decade since Jimmy's been through. He used to come to town once a year, usually with his brothers. I wonder if Percy's death put an end to his touring days? The last time I saw him, he still brought down the house.
  21. Still available: https://app.vinylmeplease.com/products/store-exclusives/johnny-griffin-a-blowin-session-limited-to-1-500 Mastered by Kevin Gray at Coherent Sound according to discogs.com
  22. Is Jimmy still performing? He hasn't been up to Boston in a long time.
  23. Until Winter & Winter reissued these two dates with new cover art, they were fetching big bucks on Ebay. I was lucky when a close friend recommended them to me because I've been enjoying them for years. I am pretty sure I saw this band when they toured in support of "Toys" but I don't remember if the entire band was on hand. I certainly don't remember Holland on the bass that night. I never bought any of those classically-themed releases by Caine after hearing a few pieces. Not really my style.
  24. Just ordered a copy. I am a big fan of Smulyan.
  25. I have that SACD but missed that they used the master tapes for it. If memory serves, the CD that this SACD replaced on my CD shelf did not sound all that great. Bainbridge/Time wasn't it? I can't confirm as I gave it away after picking up the SACD.
