Yeah, McCoy's skills are definitely fading. He is looking very frail these days - hardly walking much. My last concert experience was a bit sad as well. The music was great, but his physical condition was not... but then again, he is 79.

That is a full digital recording. Don't get the reason for going for vinyl here... at least in my experience.

I've been told by Michael Cuscuna that only the LP master tapes exist from Turrentine's "Up At Minton's". There is no other material from that remote recording.

Whenever I see a listing for a live show in France, I always check for Andre Jaume's name. Is he officially retired?

His Facebook page says he lives in Melbourne, Australia, with his profession listed as "Retired Jazz pianist/composer". To your point about a back issue, the latest picture, posted in June, shows him seated.

Heck, I'm only 55 and I've fallen twice in the past year and tweaked my right shoulder so bad that I still can't play volleyball. I'm going a little nuts about it right now. I can't imagine what Barry's going through at the age of 87.

The taunting was bad and it was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct, as it rightly should have been. If they had announced his suspension as being for taunting an injured player (and was he really injured? I read that he jumped off the backboard inside the tunnel and ran into the locker room), I could probably get a bit behind a suspension. But that's not how they announced it. To suspend a guy for a block that was considered a "great block" only a year ago... I don't get it. Besides that, if you read the new rule, "incidental" contact with the head or facemask is still legal. FWIW, they also announced that this hit was a "blindside hit". WTF? The block was *directly in his path*! The only blindness involved was Burfict for not looking where he was running. This new interpretation means that any player who looks away from an oncoming block is being blindsided. I can see some teams using this interpretation to their advantage. Need 15 yards and an automatic first down? Look away from a defender and run into him. Boom. Free yards. I still don't agree with the suspension. They have their work cut out for them. The Saints are playing great ball right now.

I don't agree with JuJu Smith-Schuster's suspension at all. And don't get me wrong, I hate the Steelers. But what was he supposed to do there? The ball is live, he knows that the runner is right next to him, he sees a potential tackler approach, who unfortunately, is not looking at him, he turns his shoulder and braces for the block but right as he's turning his shoulder, the tackler lowers his head for the tackle. What else could Smith-Schuster have done here? Was he supposed to actively monitor that the tackler sees him? Was he then supposed to just wave him by? I'm sorry, but this rule change has created a major penalty for a very good block.

That is so obscure, there doesn't appear to be a copy anywhere on the Internet. In fact, there is no mention of any records with Renee Rosnes & Ralph Lalama playing together that I can find. Renee Rosnes must like drummer-led dates. She contributes nicely to drummer Klaus Suonsaari's date for Soul Note called "Inside Out".

When did those tracks get changed from "unissued" (in the Cuscuna discography) to "rejected"? I was under the impression that the 3 CD box just grabbed the best take of the 13 tunes played during those 12 sets at the Lighthouse?

Well, that is bizarre. I am guessing that someone in Japan really messed up. That's not the way they usually do these CDs at all. Can you check to make sure that the music on the SHM-CD matches the original LP? Maybe someone just messed up the text?

It's always amazing to me how quickly the dialog changes in the NFL. After the Chiefs beat the Patriots at the Foxboro season opener, the general consensus was that Smith & Reid were bound for the Super Bowl. I don't necessarily believe that this losing streak is all on Smith. Eric Berry got hurt during that season-opening win and many (most?) felt that this was a huge blow to that defense. That might be the biggest problem the Chiefs have right now. I watched some of the Giants/Cheifs game and that Chiefs defense looked nothing like what the Patriots faced in week one.

I thought Blue Note's 13 track "complete" version of this date sounded pretty good for what it was. It's just an OK location recording. The best remastering in the world isn't going to fix that.

I got to see him several times before he retired but it was a long time ago. The thing I most remember about him was seeing a drummer playing with gloves. It was unusual.

I had a Billy Harper fan club CD. It was a CD-R and it eventually became unreadable. I wrote Billy's fan club manager several times to ask for a new copy and they completely ignored me. I doubt that his fan club's website is even manned anymore.

I can't imagine Picadilly Circus without it. When I visited there in the 90's, I had to go back twice to get through the whole Jazz section. I bought quite a lot of CDs that trip. The bonus was the Dunkin' Donuts across the street.
