Your sleeves won't protect the records as they're on their way to your house. I hope they changed the packaging and used inners. It's pretty dumb to ship records without an inner liner.

Musicians who just lost the ability to play
Kevin Bresnahan replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Sounds a lot like when I went to see McCoy Tyner last year. He looked so frail going up on stage, I was worried that he was going to fall over. And then he started playing and "Wow". After the show, he was in an even more weakened state, needing to be guided down the hallway by two people. -
According to this website, a BluRay disc can hold ~50 GB of data which would be enough storage for about 70 audio CDs. BluRay Audio is typically done at a higher resolution (24 bit/192 kHz). When you master audio at high resolution, the resulting files are bigger than CD audio so the number would be much less than 70.

LF: Session Order Of J-Mac's Feb 15,1957 Prestige Session
Kevin Bresnahan replied to JSngry's topic in Discography
I've seen session logs and heard quite a few session tapes by this time in my life and I cannot think of one date where there weren't several false starts or where someone whiffs on a run. I can see sequential take numbers like this if someone took the master tape and spliced together an "LP master" and gave it new take numbers but I have a hard time believing that these guys hit every one of these takes on the first try. After all, this was not a regular working band, was it? Maybe Chuck Nessa, who has sat in on a few sessions in his day, can tell me I'm wrong. -
LF: Session Order Of J-Mac's Feb 15,1957 Prestige Session

Every track was laid down in one take?? That doesn't seem very likely at all. I wonder where these take numbers came from? -
What vinyl are you spinning right now??

Tor Lundvall - The Park (Dais). More dark ambient sounds from Tor. One of my solitary pleasures in life. My wife & daughters don't like it at all. -
Depending on how well the speakers were stored, re-coning the drivers may not be the only thing needed. My friend had to re-cap the crossovers in an old pair of B&W speakers. The old caps leaked and changed their value. After he changed these old leaky caps, he said the speakers sounded a lot better and that he wished he did it many years earlier.

If you have an Ortofon cartridge, are you running a little heavier than they recommend? I find that my 2M Black tracks better and sounds a bit better when I track a little over the 1.5 gram recommended tracking force.

If I were in the market right now, I would definitely look at the Audeze line, particularly the new EL-8. They make some beautiful-sounding headphones and this new model is significantly less than their previous ones. Worth checking out.

I remember picking up Getz's "Dynasty" 2 CD set after reading a good review in the Penguin guide and being very glad I did. RIP Eddy.

Has the bottom fallen out of the Mosaic market?
Kevin Bresnahan replied to Dmitry's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
The Jazz LP/CD secondary market continues to trend down, particularly CDs. About the only thing appreciating is original vinyl. CDs in general (all genres) are pretty much dead on the secondary market. I've seen many very rare CDs, particularly Jazz CDs, that used to go for big money, selling for under $10. I am not at all surprised that Mosaic box sets, both on LP and CD, have crashed. -
He was always a nice guy on the jazz forums. He will be missed.

John Coltrane - Coltrane Plays The Blues (Atlantic reissue). This reissue doesn't sound all that great on my system. The piano sounds wonky. -

Roland Hanna - The New York Jazz Quartet in Chicago (Bee Hive). Nice date. I am looking forward to the Mosaic box. No permanent picture on line. By the way discogs.com - if you are reading this - Fuck you for blocking us from using your images. -

The original SABA`s sound is superb .... although the japanese pressing is non less than exzellent .... in this case kept both issues ..... I'm listening to the track "Prompt" right now and while the sound might be "superb", it is very distant. It isn't the greatest recording quality. At times, it sounds like the microphone is in another room. So if I find a reasonable copy, I'll probably pick it up. But I'm not paying the $150-250 the SABA pressing seems to be getting lately. -
Happy Birthday Kevin Bresnahan

I think I'm going to open a bottle of 2004 Bertani Amarone with my birthday dinner. I hope it's not corked. -

Close, but probably more toward blue. If you do a Google image search for this LP, you get the full color gamut. -

Just finished: Stanley Turrentine - Blue Hour (Blue Note/Music Matters). What a great sounding record! I just love the music but Music Matters really made this the best sounding LP version I've ever heard. Now that that record finished, a beauty from the Pacific Jazz stable is playing... Cy Touff - Havin' A Ball (World Pacific Records). A nice deep groove LP. Even though it's well played and the jacket is taped on all three sides, it's still great stuff. I always loved Richie Kamuca's playing on this date (as heard on the Connoissuer CD). Weirdly, this LP had one or two tracks come & go (this one has "Lazy River" and misses "Primitive Cats") and yet the CD misses "Lazy River" too. Why didn't Cuscuna add "Lazy River" to the CD? It's only 2:45. -

Just finished: Grant Green - Matador Now playing: Stanley Turrentine - Blue Hour Both records are recent releases in the Music Matters 33 rpm series. This series is incredible and I recommend these pressings to anyone into Blue Note vinyl. -

If you like those two, I would recommend picking this one up. And if you like a great sounding hunk of vinyl, contact Jerome and get yourself this 2 LP set. The extra care that was put into the sound quality shows. This is one of the best sounding new recordings on vinyl that I've heard. -
