  1. I still have at least one from the DMP label. I think they gave them away when you bought one of their regular CDs. It was shrink-wrapped onto the back. I had a few of the Beatles 3 inch CDs but I sold them years ago. They are probably worth more now but I seem to remember selling them for crazy money even 20 years ago. The thing was, the music on those Beatles 3 inch CDs was digitally identical to what was on their regular CD release, so all these people are paying for is the collectible. I don't collect things, I collect & listen to music.
  2. Joe Farnsworth - It's Prime Time (Eighty-Eight's). Joe playing with his usual cohorts (Eric Alexander, Harold Mabern, Dave Hazeltine, Jim Rotondi) but with Ron Carter on bass and guest appearances by Benny Golson (3 tunes), Curtis Fuller (2 tunes) and a rare appearance by his brother John. The title track has Joe going for a "Sidewinder" feel. Golson's "Stablemates", which seems to be played at every one of his recording dates, is actually a drum feature for Farnsworth. An enjoyable hard bop date.
  3. While that sounds sleazy, is there a specific reason why these artists wouldn't have wanted their phone numbers more widely known to a producer in the record industry?? Was Charters offense more against Koester than the artists?
  4. Art Pepper - Unreleased Art Vol. III - The Croydon Concert (Widow's Taste)
  5. I have duplicates, triplicates and quadruplicates galore. I have started paring them down but I still do stupid shit like, "Well, this CD has the alternate takes" when I know damn well that I don't ever play those alternate takes.
  6. I saw deaths in the Germany/Sweden plot and missed that it switched to cases in the US plot. That's still a ton of new cases due to the holidays. My wife works in a school and in January/February of this year, the COVID cases resulted in a huge number of teacher and student absences. At one point, about 15% of their teachers were out. In some classes, 80% of the students would be out due to the spread after the holidays. I'd venture to say that if you can figure this out, the CDC would like you to come work for them. This kind of stuff requires all kinds of analysis. There are doctors & scientists who do this for a living and they can't figure it all out so we're not going to figure it out here, that's for sure.
  7. In my opinion, both of these curves show an uptick of cases due to a lack of masks. Note the dates. These upticks in deaths are correlated to holidays. Everyone takes their mask off at the Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner table. Everyone that I know at least. To put numbers to it, if that Thanksgiving-New Years bump in 2021 wasn't there and that curve was essentially flattened out, there are ~250 additional deaths per 100K due to people taking their masks off at the holiday table. That works out to ~250,000 additional deaths. Actually, looking at the Germany/Sweden graph, it lines up similarly. Sweden has an additional national holiday celebration on January 6th FYI.
  8. Maria Schneider Jazz Orchestra - Data Lords - The Natural World (Disc 2). I'm finally getting around to spinning these CDs. I like this second disc a bit more than the 1st one.
  9. I wonder if Cannonball Adderley got some of those "A Cannonball Adderley Production" Riverside tapes like he did a few of his own dates? Maybe that's why OJC hasn't reissued them? Capitol won't issue them, that's for sure.
  10. I think there are a few that didn't make it to CD. Didn't we used to have a list of them somewhere around here? I don't think this Red Rodney LP was ever issued on CD... even in Japan:
  11. James Carter & Cyrus Chestnut - Duets (Atlantic). Although promos were made and sent to radio stations, this session was apparently never released in the US. I see on discogs that a limited edition of 3,000 CDs was done for FNAC in France. I have the US radio promo. Nice date.
  12. In my experience, there were very few OJC LPs that failed to make it to CD. As Colin mentioned, some only showed up on a 2 LPs on 1 CD compilation, but most all of them came out one way or the other.
  13. The Verve Elite Edition CD of Lawrence's "Slide Trombone" is very good. https://www.discogs.com/release/3651984-Lawrence-Brown-Slide-Trombone
  14. I like this one quite a bit.
  15. For many buyers, it's just a collectable. Some of the buyers won't even open it up to give it a spin. It'll just sit on their shelf waiting to appreciate in value.
  16. Ethiopian Mocha Sidama coffee from a small coffee roaster in Salem, NH called Coffee Coffee. Smooth cup 'o joe.
  17. I get that "Patterns" was included in one of those ridiculously-priced Blue Note boxes, but that box is long out of print so they are not affecting that box set's market. Blue Note should not be protecting an LP's re-sale value. They should reissue it.
  18. Plus, AP uses Kevin Gray, who mastering style sounds better to my ears than Bernie Grundman's. I'll stick to my CD versions.
  19. I heard on the news that he had been dealing with a rare genetic muscle disorder called Type II Myotonic Dystrophy, a kind of muscular dystrophy, for a long time. Apparently, people often have it and don't realize it until they are older as the early symptoms like muscle weakness, shortness of breath, difficulty with stairs etc. are often attributed to just "getting old".
  20. https://variety.com/2022/film/news/gilbert-gottfried-dead-dies-comedian-aladdin-1235231387/ Gilbert was funny as hell. He was unafraid to tell the hard jokes. He could be disgusting. He could be nasty. But man, am I going to miss him. One of the best "groan laugh" comedians ever. All 3 gone in the past 7 months... And Louie Anderson too... The comedy world has taken some big hits in this past year.
  21. If you really like Tubby's work, you should try to find that old Columbia CD. It has 4 extra tracks that are not in the Fontana box. They add almost an extra LP (~29 minutes) of music to this session and this Columbia CD sounds pretty good. Not great, but good enough. The extra tunes: Soho Soul 8:02 The Simple Waltz 8:57 Half A Sawbuck 7:13 You're My Everything 5:06 Only 2 of these tracks, "Half A Sawbuck" & "You're My Everything" have showed up elsewhere. They were on the Columbia LP issued coincidentally with the CD and a recent PD LP from WaxTime.
  22. After looking through my LP & CD racks, I decided to go with these 10. I had 25 listed but I didn't want to spend that much right now. 5185 Lytle, Johnny Fast Hands w/ Houston Person, Mickey Tucker, etc. 5197 Schnitter, David Thundering w/ Kenny Barron, Billy Hart, Cecil McBee, etc. 5234 Newman, David "Fathead" Resurgence w/ Marcus Belgrave, Cedar Walton, etc. 5249 Tate, Buddy Hard Blowin' w/ Ray Bryant, George Duvivier, Alan Dawson 5256 Dailey, Albert Textures w/ Rufus Reid, Eddie Gladden, Arthur Rhames 5270 Cole, Richie Alive! At The Village Vanguard w/ Bobby Enriquez, etc. 5275 Ford, Ricky Interpretations w/ John Hicks, Wallace Roney, etc. 5296 Ford, Ricky Future's Gold w/ Larry Coryell, Albert Dailey, etc. 5314 Ford, Ricky Shorter Ideas w/ James Spaulding, Jimmy Knepper, etc. 5385 Brown, Donald Sources Of Inspiration w/ Eddie Henderson, Gary Bartz, etc.
  23. As long as you're OK with mono as that is what Elusive Disc is reporting for this new release. I know it's a bit sacrilegious, but this has never been a favorite of mine.
  24. I bought that CD a long long time ago and have enjoyed it ever since. I watched the live show listings for decades to see if Leitch would ever make his way through the Boston area. He never did (that I am aware of).
