I'm seeing that it can be streamed but I can't seem to find a CD copy anywhere. What I'm hearing sounds very nice.

I have enjoyed this CD for many years. I picked it up on release mainly because he used Renee Rosnes on piano and back then, I bought everything she was on. I also seem to remember that it was a featured CD in the BMG Music Club flyer and I am pretty sure i got it from that.

Jackie McLean - Tippin' The Scales (Blue Note). This is the new Tone Poet LP and it does sound really good. But this is one of McLean's Blue Notes when he hits those sour notes every now & then. I am not as much of a fan of that sharp stuff but the band does cook. This LP also has the benefit of addition by subtraction. The CD has 3 alternates and they never did sound different enough to my ears to make them worthy of inclusion.

But again, requiring a paid subscription goes against the wishes of the Carter family. And I do have Amazon Prime Music, but on November 1st, they rendered that service pretty much useless when they removed the ability to stream specific tunes, only allowing for a "random" playback. A few days ago, I clicked on a Joe Chambers tune from his Horace Silver tribute CD and got a tune from a gospel singer.

Selfies have been killing people at an alarming rate for quite a while now. It's no surprise that Tik-Tok is right there with them. I once went to the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland while visiting on business and there was a space where you could walk right up the edge and look down. The guy I was with went out there and stood to look out. It was windy as hell and I told him he was crazy. I crawled out on my hands & knees and peeked out near the edge. Couldn't do it. It was too much for me. After we left, we were telling someone at the hotel about our trip and they were saying that those winds blow people off the cliffs quite frequently. I hear it's about 10 people per year. I've been told that they have been putting up a berm in front of the viewing path, with a fence along the top so this number is likely to go down now... although I'm sure some idiots will climb over the fence for that selfie.

This is streaming here: https://immub.org/album/songbook-instrumental-antonio-carlos-jobim Seems rather "smooth Jazz" to my ears. Not bad at all, but certainly not something I would play too often or pay big bucks to acquire. This is selling for over $200 on Amazon.

But the story on the National Jazz Museum of Harlem webpage is clear, "Mrs. Hilma Carter has made a gift of this music to the National Jazz Museum in Harlem to support their mission of preserving, promoting, and presenting jazz. It is her wish that the music be made available free of charge, and the museum is placing it across the world’s most popular streaming services." So why $8.99 & who is getting that $8.99? And before I am asked, I get why a label has to charge for physical product, but as noted, Amazon is selling a download. This would seem to fit closely with "streaming". The playing of a stream uses no more data than a download - probably less in fact.

All this Paolo Fresu talk got me to pull up this one next. Cosmo Intini Jazz Set - My Favorite Roots (Timeless). Bartz plays well here too. All in all, this turned out to be one of those, "Hmm... the band looks interesting... I wonder what this is" that led to, "Yeah, this was a good pick up". About the only negative here is that I am not a fan of the bass sound. It's almost annoying at times. Discogs says it was recorded in 1990, but it sounds more like a 1980 bass sound.

My absolute favorite Romano CD with Fresu on it is "Canzoni" (Enja). Romano leads the quartet through a set of Italian ballads, with Fresu playing all of them with a Harmon mute. Beautiful playing by all and a CD that I often spin at while eating dinner. I thought I had this one in the racks but I'm not finding it on my work PC's hard drive so I either forgot to rip this one or I didn't get it after all.

Paolo Fresu - Incantamento (Plays the music of Tino Tracanna) (Blue Note Italy). Part of a 5 CD series of sessions Fresu did with his quintet with each disc featuring original compositions from each member of the band. This is Tino Tracanna's disc. This is great jazz. All 5 of these CDs are well worth hearing.

Sadly, it's being reported that Mick has died. I assume this fundraiser will now go to help his wife pay those medical bills. RIP Mick and thanks for the music.

Blue Note finally got around to re-pressing "Introducing Kenny Burrell". This is an amazing-sounding record. If you are a fan of the music and you have a turntable, you should pick up a copy of this Tone Poet LP. The music has never sounded better.

I see you're bringing a trio to Scullers in Boston on February 4th. Should be a good time, although I was looking forward to seeing Cory Weeds for the first time. He doesn't seem to travel far from his home base.

I just came across a review of this and it sounds like something I might like. It seems to be only available as part of a large box or an old French CD. Is this highly regarded here? How did Columbia forget about it?

At my age, I've stopped buying wines that need a lot of time in the cellar. I've stocked up on a bunch of 2018 Californian Cabs that I'll sit on for the next 10 years or so, but after those are all gone, I'll probably switch to buying wines that are ready to drink on release. Having said this, I am trying to get my hands on a 6-pack of the 2019 Schrader Double Diamond Cabernet, which was just named "Wine of the Year" by the Wine Spectator.

2018 Caravan Red made by Darioush. It was pretty good. I remember it being better at the tasting when I bought it.

Bob Berg - New Birth (Xanadu). Berg & Tom Harrell in the front line and a rhythm section of Cedar Walton, Mike Richmond, Al Foster & Sam Figueroa. It's a pretty decent date - Berg's first as a leader.

Damn... I might have to pick that one up. It's not like I have a mono US LP laying around to hold me over.

I already have most of the original Blue Note XRCDs, including a few that I already owned as TOCJ CDs, breaking my own rules. I agree that they sound really good.

Mick with his good friend, 19-year old Pat Metheny playing in Gary Burton's band at the Molde Jazz Festival of 1974. Mick solos at 8:45 & 18:58. I was lucky to see Mick many times due to his playing around Boston while working at Berklee. And Roger - thanks for starting this thread. I meant to yesterday but life intervened and I forgot.

The word on the street is that the last 5 Blue Note XRCDs are going to start shipping soon. I can't believe that it took them this long to get them out, but there it is.
