  1. Claude, thanks for the link, but it seems to mix both the 2 series indescriminately, erudition and clarification still required!
  2. Jazz Review advertises a new batch of these, including Mingus, the Clown and Oh Yeah, McCann and Harris Swiss Movement, Coltrane Sound and Plays the Blues, Lateef, Detroit and so on. Which type are these- the cheapo digi packs or the Jewel cases? Ubu? Brownie? any body ?
  3. Vincent mentioned that Palo Alto is now put out by Quicksilver, I looked at the site but remain confused, Which releases are Palo Alto? and do they have some kind of wierd generic cover? Or have the real covers just not made it too the site? Otherwise some nice looking stuff there methinks...
  4. Have you tried anything from the Tzadik composers series? I buy most of then ,normally not knowing what to expect, pleasant surprises about half the time! This weekend I have played, and enjoyed, Lois V Vierk The river under the river and Christian Wolf Burdocks.
  5. I am really confused about this series. Several, like the Lateef, and the Bill Evans were issued recently in digi.packs, also under the Warner Jazz classics series. When I saw this series I was pleased that these cheapo cheapo digis were being superceded, then a couple months back the Jazz Review has an ad for new releases in this Warner Jazz Masters series, inc Ornettes Twins, Bags and Trane again in the digi packaging! What the hell is going on ?Erudition required!
  6. Yep, one of the very best Mosaic sets. Keep calm, breathe slowly, it seems you have got a year to get the money together but as soon as hits the running low catagory.... Though I would not like to be without this for another 365 days!
  7. Couw, I think the best Moondog album I have ever heard is the Columbia album you show on your post. Brilliant I have lived with since the early 70`s.Everything else of his that I have heard pales into insignificance and has not stayed too long in my collection, including the stuff on Prestige. I hace a cd twofer which includes the second Columbia album, Madrigals, rounds and canons, which is a bit of an aquired taste. I second Bevs recomendation for Värttinä and would like too add the magnificent Canadian/Mexican singer Lhasa and her album La Llrona.
  8. Yeah Celine, another one for the Hall of Infamy up there with other big shits like Ezra Pound and little shits like Marc Eemans...just say no! or as Benjamin Peret said "ne mange pas de cèst pain La!"
  9. Up. Still need input on the more obscure (to me!) names, I will add Betty Roach?
  10. Bit earlier than you were looking for I know but another thumbs up for Smack up,
  11. I´m with Mike Weil on this , Shes a fascist and I dont care good she looked.
  12. Dear Late, yes I think I agree with you, I happen to prefer Buds earlier stuff, Of course I like the later stuff I have heard- though I could have heard more!- but I find it slightly more generic, less of an individual voice than the Pacific Jazz days. One paradox for me is that I generally dislike jazz flute but i really like Buds playing, go figure. Since this thread started I have gone back and listened to both of the Mosaic sets and also portions of the Kenton presents and complete Nocturne box and I am glad I did! Just like a good Cabernet , and I too even like the Surf stuff...
  13. Brownie, any specific details about this repackaging? individual cds or box set? individual titles? Merci....
  14. O.K. so most of these recomendations are now on order from Hiroshi, thanks. Now, to what Edward said, what about all thse unknown names (to me anyway)? Sally Blair?Morel?Marilyn Moore? and so on....
  15. Well Wesbed, perhaps the reason I like this stuff, because Sweden definately does not have a warm and friendly climate!
  16. Well, I like Shank and I liked this select! And I know this is subjective, but it is, along with the Brookmeyer, one of the most played selects in this domicile. Perhaps because so little of it was known in advance. (though perhaps Wesbed is right about CD2) I am one of those who get very happy when these Pacific Jazz sets see the light of day.
  17. John, I am not going to confine myself, but right now the wife and my bank manager are looking over my shoulder!
  18. Three men with beards share the same website as Water...though I cannot find it just now...
  19. Yes Michael, bring on the select!!! I dont care if its the sessions with Land or other later sessions (which I have never heard) I really do think that he is unjustly underated.
  20. I have never really listened to jazz singers, and I am about to begin to right that wrong. I realy like the Bethlehem label and would like recomendations from board members of where to start with singers on Bethlehem. I have no preference if these are the Avenue Jazz reissues or the great Toshiba reissues.
  21. it took me sometime to track down this series and I will only add that the whole lot great. I particularly like the Watkins, and Melle, I too would really love a revival of this series...
  22. Thanks Flurian, nice to be here ,feels comfortable.
