  1. The San Francisco Spring Jazz has added a new show. Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Dave Holland, and Brian Blade on Saturday June 19, 2004 at the Nob Hill Masonic Auditorium. This should be a good show.
  2. IT"S BACK!!! Yoshi's has brought back the Sunday Matinees. THE SUNDAY 2PM MATINEES RETURN EACH & EVERY SUNDAY BEGINNING SUNDAY, JUNE 6 WITH AIRTO MORIERA'S JAM BAND FEATURING FLORA PURIM! TIX ON SALE 5/1/04 @10AM! THANKS FOR ALL OF THE EMAILS AND LETTERS! THE OWNER HAS DECIDED TO BRING THE MATINEES BACK!
  3. Yep, I can listen at work unless my case load gets heavy.
  4. Hmm.... A few I can remember for now.... Carmen McRae Clark Terry Freddie Hubbard Flora Purim & Airto Ron Carter Harvey Mason Steve Turre Herbie Hancock Wayne Shorter Hugh Makesala Ahmad Jamal Les McCann Bobby Hutcherson Dorothy Donegan many more, can't recall all at this time.
  5. I've seen the Dave Holland Big Band and the Duke Ellington Orchestra (minus Duke) with Mercer Ellington. They were swinging!!
  6. I hope they bring back the 2pm Sunday matinee. It makes a nice Sunday afternoon treat.
  7. I just received a newsletter (of upcoming shows) from Yoshi's that an announcement is coming soon about Sunday matinees. Does anyone know?
  8. Finished them last month. Will mail it in at the last minute.
  9. Looked like a practice game to the Lakers to me. No more injuries before the playoffs.
  10. Friday - Rent DVD's and some good take out. Saturday - I will see the Passion of the Christ. I have been wanting to see it before 'Easter'. Iwill also watch Davis Cup & the women's Bausch & Lomb tennis tourney. It looks like Serena Williams could win this one. Sunday - 2 dinners at different houses (I'm full already) and a play at church in the evening. A laid back weekend.
  11. Did anyone catch Regina Carter at Yoshi's last weekend? I was out of town and could not make it. Also, how is the Jazz House? I see from the calendar I missed the Josh Roseman Unit this past Wednesday.
  12. I saw this collective last week in Sacramento, very very nice.
  13. Yes, Duke and Stanford are out. Alana Beard and Nicole Powell were heartbroken. Alas, there is the WNBA.
  14. I would suggest the piano. I started with lessons at about eleven years of age. My brothers all started with different instruments and 3 of them have taken piano lessons at one time or another. They say that if they could do it over they would take some piano and then go for the other instruments.
  15. Bacar. I have heard of that club. Is it still there, I wonder. Hmmm.... I'll have to give Bacar and Rasselas a try. B)
  16. I have been hearing of new clubs in the Fillmore District. Has anyone heard of or been to 'Rasselas Jazz Club?' They serve Ethiopian Cuisine.
  17. NCAA - Women Just watched a dynamic last 15 seconds between Stanford and Vanderbilt. Stanford was behind by 1 and a 3 pointer was made by Stanford wining the game with about 2.1 seconds to go. Very exciting since I was pulling for Stanford. I am hoping for Duke, UConn, Tennessee, & Stanford in the final four.
  18. I saw the Big Band in Feb '03. The personnel was : Orrin Evans, Boris Kozlov, Craig Handy, John Stubblefield, Donald Edwards, Kenny Rankin, and Frank Lacy. Very nice!!
  19. RainyDay, Thanks for the Yoshi's info. I will write a letter and hopefully get others on the bandwagon. You are right, it is a hassle to get into SF and then find parking, etc... It is sooo much easier to get into Yoshi's where it is now.
  20. Next Thursday and Friday (04/01,02) in SF @ the Palace of Fine Arts Theatre will be the SF Jazz Collective. They consist of Bobby Hutcherson, Joushua Redman, Nicholas Payton, Miguel Zenon, Josh Roseman, Renee Rosnes, Robert Hurst, and Brian Blade. I saw this group last night in Sacramento at the Crest Theater and they were great. There was a great vibe between the artists and the audience and many times Bobby Hutcherson and Brian Blade were playing off each other which set off an excitement with the audience and the musicians alike. So if you have a chance, catch this collective in SF.
